Description This was actually done for my advanced drawing class, we had to draw something imagined without references. Naturally dragons came to mind.

While working on this I also learned a new way to color, curtesy of this awesome photoshop shading tutorial: [link]
It basically uses adjustments layers for each light/shadow source.

I've always had difficulties getting shading and coloring to look good, so this should be a great push towards actually doing some colored pieces and not just sketches like I usually do.

Fun fact: The original pencil sketch for this was done on 24x18 paper which I scanned in in 6 small pieces, merged together and then worked off that. The final file-size was almost 500MB, at almost 7000x5500 pixels. Even the flattened png was 40 MB in size, and can be downloaded here if you dare click the download button

such incredible detail... this is really beautiful work. If someday you were to do a Pern Dragon Eye I think I'd dance.

Thank you kindly though I'm afraid I don't know what a 'Pern Dragon' is.

Ahh, Dragonriders of Pern is a series of books by Anne McCaffery. The dragons are said to have faceted eyes that swirl with color based on their mood.   Some great art here from KaiserFlames with an eye on the second page of the Pern gallery.

Amazing job! I love how it all is colored and the eye is just gorgeous! I also really like that you can see some of it's scales, it adds those tiny details that I ove to see! Amazing amazing!

Thanks! Wish I had had more time to work more on the scales, but was for a class and had to turn it in so I don't feel like going back to it XD
