This writing-instead-of-drawing business is hard!In an effort to forcibly eject myself from this art slump, I took a mental health day from my other duties, deciding to draw whatever, and to see those whatevers through to completion. (I'm so sick of never finishing anything). To a certain extent it's working, so I may continue for a few more days.
So, here's the first whatever. As Harry Potter taught us, you just can't have enough drawings of young book characters gazing at each other in slashy ways. So I drew Alain and Cuthbert from DT4: Wizard and Glass. This one's for Bruni, as she unintentionally inspired it.
I have sort of a love/hate relationship with this drawing. Love because I finally finished something, and it was fun to color... and hate because it's the most boring composition I can imagine, and I've totally drawn this same composition a thousand times, and it makes me feel like a hack. I also have mixed feelings about my coloring stye. I'm not so good with textures... everything is frustratingly smooth. I feel strangely disposable. Replaceable. Average. My art-ego is small lately. It happens when I don't draw enough. (And I'm about to get a boot to the head for saying so, I just know it.)
What needs to happen is for me to bust out some freakin' awesome comics! That'll fix me up. It always does. (Just gotta finish writin' em first!!)

I don't understand why people love "shipping". Yet i need to say that picture is really good and expressions are very well caught.
Looks like Cuthbert is obviously up to something and Alain (being the only sane man here) is trying to bring him to reason.
No undertones has been seen here.

actually when I saw this the first time, i thought the characters were the other way around, cuthbert as alain and alain as cuthbert...
but after reading wizard and glass, Alain is a boy. yes, yes, he's a boy. yep. definitely.
and i might say, after reading that, you've got pretty much how I imagined them down... but I have two versions of Cuthbert floating around and I don't know which one i want to stick as my mental image. very strange.

...But now to confuse you more, there's going to be a girl character in the Dark Tower comics named Eileen! Alain, Eileen.... heheh, good luck!

I just read the part in Wolves of the Calla the Roland dreams of Jericho Hill... and Alain's and Cuthbert's daths... oh, geez, I was bawling. They're probably the best characters in the Roland-verse!

Haha! I hadn't thought of this pairing. I always thought that young Roland and Alain would be nice, because Roland seems to admire the traits that Jake has that remind him of Alain...
