Description This will probably go to scraps later... but I found this while flicking through my Ingres block and it kind of appealed to me so I though I'd show you too! This scene actually had a fairy on the left side of the picture, facing the the ent but I cut her out as she looked well...to put it bluntly, bloody awfull!!
So...no prints of this unless someone requests it!

Can you spot the Ent's face?
Done in soft pastels and coloured pencils on Ingres paper

i just love the simple (but effective) colours , and the attention to detail here. plus, i like how you came up with your own ent design, and didnt just use one from the LOTR movies

really nice colours..like a summer evening I like the twisting forms in the tree too, and the 'hidden' face - I had to look twice before seeing it great painting

Wirklich klasse! ^.^

Well, not your strongest piece as far as technique goes, but I think this has a lot of potential as far as concept and composition. I really like it that the ent is facing away from the viewer. Most people like to draw the subject matter straight on, but this layout has a more engaging sort of perspective. It is as if the ent and the butterfly are having a quiet moment together, and the viewer is sneaking up on them quietly. I think this composition draws the viewer into the piece. I would love to see a more polished version of this.

I agree...I am not my best at using soft pastels, the stuff goes everywhere...and not just up your nose! I much prefer coloured pencils as they allow for more fine details and structures. I used to have a stupid idea that one had to use the assigned medium for a certain kind of paper, and in this case it was my first try 3 yrs. ago with Ingres and I HAD to use pastels!

Maybe I'll try this with my usual watercolour and Bristol paper...
Thanks!

It'd be a shame to put this into scraps. It's very nicely done. I love the feel of this it makes me nostlagic and happy at the same time. ^_^ I like how the Ent's face is sort of hidden as well.
