This is beautiful! I love the face, the eyes, the hair and the expression! The perspective is awesome... not an easy perspective to get looking right. Do you want to come and teach the guys I work with how to use Viz lol. This just screams at me

I have a short attention span it took about an hour to set up the pose/perspective this way I think, then I did it over because I thought I could do it better and it turned out I couldn't, so I went back to this version... It's hard for me to say how long in total an image takes because I do them pretty piecemeal, this one I think took a couple of evenings to do, the "Ember in the Graveyard" I did in an afternoon, but the "Forest Faery" took much longer than both of those, because try as I might I couldn't get her back wing to be lit right. I always have to keep stopping anyway because it takes the computer quite a while to render test images...

lol... sorry, apart from an 'arty' interest... I ask because we render things here at work which we import from autoCAD. We design office partitioning... nowt exciting. We use Viz because it works well with CAD both being Autodesk. It takes our guys a day or so to get the lighting right... admitedly they have no Viz training lol... but what you do seems so much more difficult... shading and skin tones must be harder to light than RAL colours effectively? In the 'Ember' picture.. which is gorgeous. I like the way that none of the light sources overpower another... u so talented!!

It would take me a lot longer to light offices; rooms are much more difficult to light as you have all these walls in the way casting shadows where you don't want them. I mainly use a combination of trial and error, a lighting tutorial I once read, a lot of preset light sources which can look pretty good with small or large amounts of tweaking, or some form of global illumination (either built in to Poser 6, or created by a couple of scripts to generate individual lights)... Plus, if it's not come out completely right after a render, I can paint in lights using paint shop pro. For example in Ember in the graveyard I brightened both the moon and the pumpkin in postwork, neither of them looked half so good in the original render - they looked kind of flat.

I think Viz is probably a hell of a lot more difficult to use than Poser (which I use).

lmao... how ever easy you make it sound which I'm damn sure it isn't you are still an amazing artist! You have to have the vision and the talent to draw the model in the first place...

Uh... I wish The model is Aiko 3 from a company called Daz 3d [link] and the character is called Brielle, and was made by a truly talented pair called Thorne and Sarsa. If you'd like to try out how easy (or not) making images this way is, the base model of Aiko is available for free until the end of the month here: [link] and you can download for free a program called Daz|Studio here [link] which is similar in function to Poser, the program I use, but imo not as good yet.

That's not to say there is no talent involved in making images like mine. I've been doing this for two years now, and my first attempts were pretty cringe-worthy, so much so I've never showed anyone execpt my immediate family who bought me the program in the first place. I have them all printed out though, in a folder to remind me how far I've come. And there are some people who's work blows my mind, and I despair of ever getting as good as I'd like... people like *Ravnheart or *Arwenone for example...

Eventually, I do hope to model my own stuff, but that's a long way (and a lot of money) off...

But seriously, try out Daz studio. You might have some fun, and it's free anyway...

I use Poser 6 for rendering and mainly paint shop pro for postwork... Eventually I'd like to move up to something like max, but I think I'd be rubbish at modelling!
