Description
The image that I had of Japan was its people and the country’s beauty. Its exquisite changing of the seasons (shown in so much of Japanese Artwork) I represented with (of course) the Cherry Blossom.
With its people I had two images that stood out to me, the modern Japan, and then the tradition costume, Geisha and Maiko. I went with the latter, due to their unique beauty, style and presence. Through my research for this piece I learnt so much about the Maiko’s and the stages they must go through to become a Geisha. The Maiko’s are younger and their dress is much more brightly coloured and ornately decorated. They also wear a collar that is red and white and then change to white when they are a Geisha, so I tried to make both stand out in this piece. I wanted to show a younger girl who was “blossoming” through these stages to become a Geisha.
