Description 9" x 12". 8b kimberly pencil. hb, b, 3b ritmo charcoal pencils. powdered willow charcoal. organic cold-pressed coffee. blended with #1 filbert (charcoal) and 1/8" angle (pencil) brushes. hot-pressed watercolor paper.

I enjoyed experimenting with coffee for this piece. I've discovered that treating the paper and creating an imperfect surface has helped free my mind from trying to draw exactly what I see, and try to create an impression of the subject rather than a precise representation. I very much enjoy creating detailed pencil drawings, but this is fun as well.

Haha! It's a great way to remind yourself never to get attached... in the end, it's just markings on paper.
I've dropped all of my favorite drawings and spilled things on them, etc. after spending so many long hours getting them "just right".

Thank you, as always, for leaving such a positive and encouraging comment and for choosing her for your collection.

I know exactly what you mean! It's why I rarely fill the whole sheet of paper... I love doing detail, but then I love leaving things slightly unfinished.
I love the way this has gone for you

Thank you, Jenny! I was getting a little obsessed with those large fully rendered pencil drawings. As with any obsession, I always feel that a break is often needed to reboot. Now, if I can only wean myself off of IG.
Thank you for another fav, my dear.

So true, a break from things is always good! Ahh... Yes, IG... Me too! But if it wasn't for IG then I wouldn't have known about you & all the other amazing, talented people around the world
You're always welcome my lovely

I'm so glad you like this piece! This type of work is more personal for me as I tried to draw less with my eyes and more with my intuition.
Thank you for adding her to your collection.

Very nice piece! I know what you mean about letting go a little, it feels fresh and free to loosen up a little but the difficulty is in trying to keep it natural and not forced. I think you were successful with this. I find it helps to use things we can't totally control.

It's always nice to see a nice piece from you in the deviation mail box. Great job on this.
Very nice to see you experimenting with new materials and seeing what you can do to our advantage. Spot on.

I will ask tho, the shadow across the nose, is that a scanner or done by you? It just makes the nose lose some depth, flat almost. The top ridge and bottom of the nose is good, just that little shadow in between.

Overall, brilliant. Keep it up.

Thank you so much!

I appreciate you pointing out the shadow. I hadn't noticed it, but it is part of the random coffee stain and is part of the imperfect character of the drawing.
Thank you, as well, for selecting her as a fav!
