-Spring, 1971-

Stepney was enjoying their time back on Thomas' Branch Line. They had been asked to help out with some of the workload whilst their line was being extended. They had just arrived at Anopha Quarry when they spotted Mavis standing by.

"Hello, hello!" They called out with a whistle. "Cripes, it's been ages now, hasn't it Mavis? Have you done something with your hair there? I quite like it."

Mavis laughed, all too familiar with the Terrier's effectual charisma. "Yes, I convinced the Manager to let me get it dyed when I was last at the Works. Toby thinks it's silly, but it adds a nice bit of color I think."

"Well, I'd say it suits you perfect! Now then, I believe Tom said you have some trucks for me?"

"Ah, yes. DEAN!!" Mavis tooted her horn long, and out from the sidings crept a grey and green diesel, who looked quite annoyed.

"What?" He asked.

"Have you marshalled Stepney's trucks yet?"

"Who's trucks?"

"Ugh. The trucks of stone for the harbour? I believe Charlie was supposed to pick them up but he ended up preoccupied at the Big Station."

"Derailed on some trap points if I remember right." Stepney put in.

"I'll go get them." Dean grumbled, and crawled back into the sidings, grumbling to himself.

"Now, who is that?" Stepney asked Mavis. "I've never seen him around her before. Hell, I haven't seen him on the Island at all for that matter."

"He's hired out from some Private Owners on the Mainland," Mavis replied, "Some engineer named Boomhauer or something like that. He arrived with his sister Sam a few weeks ago to help with the extra stone trains coming out of the quarry, though if you ask me I think I'd be able to manage fine by myself."

"Oh come now, I'm sure he's not that bad!"

"No, I know. They're fine shunters and are more than capable of this line of work but... they can be a bit 'lacking' if you catch my drift."

Just then, Dean came rolling back in with a long line of stone trucks. They rattled and groaned behind him, griping at him to "Pick up the pace!" and "Move it, snail-speed!"

"Huh." Stepney though aloud. "You know, I've never heard that saying before, but I think I know what you mean."

It's the first of the Bluebell Engines! No better way to start this than with Stepney themself! Next up is Captain Baxter, and his rather infamous temper.
