I realized I hadn't done any appreciable personal work since March 2009, and figured it was time to rectify that. In truth, however, it was simply too hot at my computer, and went outside and started sketching - this is the intended background for a piece featuring, appropriately enough, Ash.~3 hours Adobe Photoshop CS3.

I would love to set this as my background but with my 1680x1050 resolution it's kinda small. Do you have it bigger? I wondered since I saw this on the popular page and without the creature?

wow, thats great. it is so hard to get fire to look real, and there's so much of it.
it;s very scary, i'm picturing someone running in fear, but Ash wouldn't be afraid, would she? maybe saving someone/something.

That's actually sort of what the larger scene is. Big battle scene where Ash is trying to save someone, who's just trying to get the heck out :b I just planned on Ash being by herself in it, but I haven't decided on her pose yet!

Thanks a lot! I haven't decided exactly on an Ash pose. I did an original sketch that inspired the background, but it evolved some, and now I'm wondering if a different pose would be better. Alas, time to do some alternative sketches X3

Ash is my favorite OC...that's your OC...I'm not exactly sure how to construct that sentence, but I hope you get the idea. Anyway, more Ash art, I can't wait! Is this the final version of the background? It looks like you're going for more of an animated style, with the simplified textures and strongly contrasting colors.

Yeah, it's the final version of the background, as far as I can know. I wasn't actually intending to do it in a cartoony or animated style, but I definitely see what you mean! The original intent was a bit surreal, but in my usual way I sorta killed that XD

I can see how it could be surreal, especially farther back, where there's more blending and insubstantiality. I know that's not a word, but it is now. 
Of course, you could always add a giraffe playing a harmonica, that's surrealism guaranteed!

Hahahahah. But yeah, I think the original sketch I have COULD work, as Ash is sometimes kind of "nightmarish" in actual appearance (a magical effect, mostly), but yeah, dunno yet!
