Description Commission for MaxFuchsKojote again, this time of his mate, basically a magical DJ whose markings begin to glow as he channels his power. Obviously I had to capitalize on the opportunity for glowiness 8D Partly painted on the train to London, but I couldn't finish it as the glare got too intense :b

Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Hehe, thanks a lot!

I actually had a lot of fun with this one, because it sort of let me channel my own musical enthusiasm into it that, sadly, none of my other friends really get!

Any advice for a new digital artist~? ; w;1

Haha, mostly lots and lots of practice, really.  Copy stuff you like, work from references, it'll help teach your hand proper shapes and such than just trying to do everything from scratch and by memory.  And have patience - stuff can take a long time to get good :b

; 3; Thanks... I found it to be a lot easier than doing traditionally but I'm always rather intimidated by amazing artists like yourself. Everything is so detailed and beautiful...

Oh, don't worry, I really do know how it feels :b  I can get easily discouraged and tend to compare myself to people I maybe shouldn't x_x  Just remember there's always someone better, so you shouldn't really compare yourself to them if it's only going to make yourself want to quit.  Instead think about how much you've improved, and be proud of what you've done so far.

I have lots of tutorials and things in their own gallery folder, you can take a look if you want

And yeah, digital is a lot more forgiving than traditional (CTRL-Z <3), although traditional has a stronger "feel" to it, if that makes sense (the way the pencil or brush feels, and how the lines change when you change how you hold/press it, etc.), not to mention more convenient, cleaner, and in a lot of ways cheaper.

Yeah... There's this guy that I've been watching on here since day 1--`Wen-M . He's amazing and everytime he draws something, I practically draw. It's a love/hate relationship with me. xD

I'll definitely take a look at those tutorials of yours. I've been working on drawing Anthros as well, even have a few wips on my computer... I've gotten better at doing the legs, but it's the heads that kill me... @.@ And I suck at drawing males--which is why all my doodlings are female xD

*chuckles* Yeah, I watch him too, he's got a fantastic eye for detail.

Heh, yeah, it can be tricky to get the hang of male vs female anatomy :b

Try copying pictures directly, or even tracing can help teach your stubborn hands to do it right :b  Then try doing it freehand again afterwards, should feel easier

But wouldn't person get upset? ; 3;

jocarra In reply to CentauressFaryn [2013-09-11 21:10:24 +0000 UTC]

Some people do, but other people don't, and not endorsing dishonesty, but what they don't know won't hurt them :b  You can just trace stuff at home and never upload it, just as personal practice, and obviously, you don't HAVE to trace, just saying it can be a decent learning tool just for the sheer muscular training (like learning a song on piano, your fingers start to remember how, the same can apply to art) - your fingers might "remember", oh, this is the sort of shape faces have, even if normally you can't draw freehand faces very well.
