Description Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms , a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.

We have a faun already, but the art director wanted a satyr, too - she asked for a creature similar to our faun , but more bestial in appearance and with ram horns instead.Ā  She wants fauns to be more peaceful and playful then, I gather, while satyrs are more aggressive by nature.

...they'd certainly make interesting infantry units.

Huh, I don't think I would have even thought of that :VĀ  So yeah, definitely interesting!

I never understood the need to seperate the faun and satyr
I imagined they were the same being
Cool weapons btw

Originally, satyrs were Roman and were part horse, whereas fauns were Greek and part goat, but they eventually became the same thing, so now everyone thinks of both of them as goat-men :b

Thanks!

I thought fauns were half deer instead of half horse?

Humm... could be cuddly, when not in a fighting mood. Ā Ā  Well done on the fur textures, and horns.Ā  His facial expression seems to be wickedly amused about something - perhaps he's been challenged by an opponent (or several) who greatly underestimate his abilities, and he knows it.

Heh, yeah - I while I think overall he's fairly generic "fantasy creature in an action pose," I do think you can see the "satyrishness" in his facial expression to some degree - someone who's maybe mischievous and playful, but with a bit darker or more aggressive edge.Ā  Obviously due to the mostly-family-friendly nature of the game, I can't directly reference it, but satyrs ARE rather known for being sexual deviants :V

Yes, I am aware of the satyrs reputation for... rampant erotic ventures.

I always really liked Pathfinder's write-up for satyrs X3

Satyrs, known in some regions as fauns, are debauched and hedonistic creatures of the deepest, most primeval parts of the woods. They adore wine, music, and carnal delights, and are renowned as rakes and smooth-talkers, wooing unwary maidens and shepherd boys and leaving a trail of awkward explanations and unplanned pregnancies in their wakes...

Sounds about right.

I'd be curious to discover what the offspring of a satyr and a human would look like, as well as it's personality and talents.

Hmm, yeah, dunno!Ā  Probably a real troublemaker for the human parent, I'm sure >_O

Yeah, I really liked the God of War satyrs - I have a feeling, though, the art director wasn't going for quite so monstrous/nasty a look.Ā  She basically just wanted me to give the faun different horns and more hair X3 although I did beef him up a little bit, too :b
