Jocarra and her Lodestar.

I've been aching to do some more serious artwork of Luke and Jayli for a while now, and just didn't have the time with my summer classes; at the same time, I've been contending with a rather serious creative block. That being said, I'm pleased with this: it's a different style than usual, but it was fun to do, and I think it turned out well enough. It was just nice doing some more artwork of Luke and Jayli again... even if it was based on an already-existing sketch I did in class. Other than that, however, it was completely freehand with no references.

Oh, wow! I don't even feel particularly comfortable with humans, really - I think there are plenty of artists out there that do fantastic people - but regardless, I'm very flattered you like mine I mess about with different styles from time to time, so hopefully it wasn't really a one-time thing :b

Maybe it's because this picture had a personal meaning to me: I was going through some pretty extreme depression, and while it sort of represented my real life boyfriend coming through for me, it also represents how the two characters themselves sort of serve as guardians/mentors to me. So this picture is very much about "being saved" on some level, finding refuge in another person in the face of adversity.

If you're interested in the characters, all art related to them is in my Tripartitus folder - I also have a sort of long-winded "about" journal: [link]

That's sad, but it's interesting to see how feelings effect art. The characters are very interesting. They're so cute together.

Thanks

Those are lyrics to a song I wrote in a language from their story. It's basically a love song about devotion and loyalty I haven't had the heart to rewrite it because the translation and rhyming/timing in another language is too much work X3 The part in all capitals is Latin, meaning "Into Eternity."

I've been reading every comment on this piece and I honestly don't think I could add anything that would bring it up even higher in "reviews". Cannot really understand how few people seem to have seen this though, it's wonderful.

I really (as all others clearly) can feel the longing, the joy of being together, yet overshaded by doubt/fear/sadness, in the moment you framed here. It makes me sad a little to imagine what those moments feel like. At the same time though, the mere presence of such moments makes the longing worthwhile. Gives you strength. Keeps you moving x.x I love the way "gentleness" just oozes off here. The touch of her hand on his shoulder made my skin creep up, as if she's putting all her trust in him, yet is scared to break his strength. And he holds her close to his being, without getting rough.

On the technical notes, I can see it isn't your usual style, but still, I think any style you'd try mastering, you'd put emotion into it, it's just a piece of essence to your work, imho. And that's a very good thing. I like your shading a lot here, as well as the few subtle light spots. The outlining isn't too thick or thin, just right, me thinks. The whole facial expression is succesful, especially as *linteli said, the eyes.

Fantastic work *bows*!!

Thanks so much... I really appreciate comments like this, especially on pieces that are important to me. Thanks

"Cannot really understand how few people seem to have seen this" I think because a lot of my watchers are into animal artwork, or fantasy. This doesn't really fit into either - it would do better if I were an anime artist or something. I don't really care - it's still meaningful to me. In fact, as self-indulgent as it sounds, I bought a print of it for myself. I want to put it on my wall, where I can see it, instead of just on the computer...

"makes me sad a little to imagine what those moments feel like" Yeah, they are sad... but that's what makes it special. If it were all about lovey-dovey happy endings and no worries, it would be just a fairy tale. It would have no substance. The fear and sadness and loss and pain (or threat of) makes things real.

"At the same time though, the mere presence of such moments makes the longing worthwhile" Indeed. There is a song by Apoptygma Berzerk that express the same thing. In fact, when I first heard the lyrics, I couldn't help but think of Luke - while the music doesn't exactly fit him, I still can't help but think of it as the Luke song now, heh... You hold the candle I once bled / You shine your light / When you forgive, I cry / You run your fingers through my hair and tell me it's all worthwhile / It's all worthwhile... You might not like the music, but it's here [link] (Unicorn)

"Gives you strength. Keeps you moving" That's what Luke and Jayli do. It's like their job, outside of their existence in The Tripartitus. I try to make it up to them through my creative endeavours...

"And he holds her close to his being, without getting rough." "gentleness" just oozes off here" That's something that Luke is for me. He means a lot...

Thanks so much for all your comments on everything, I really do appreciate it.

I think you're right about the genre of artwork. Though I'm quite surprised still x.x I find it so lovely when people explore their own capacities, that it's hard to imagine one wanting an artist to stick to one or two styles. Maybe that's a little narrowminded of them, but maybe it is, of me, too Never right to just "assume", I guess And I'm happy you bought a print, it's a good thing to keep things close that mean a lot to you!

"The fear and sadness and loss and pain (or threat of) makes things real."
Very right... It would have much less of a meaning, as well, if there was no fear of losing it. Why bother, then, kind of, if that makes sense. And I think the song you linked to, was really hitting the nail on the head. Very gentle wording, and as the lyrics state "it's all worthwhile".

I'm happy you finished this piece
And it's a pleasure to be commenting on your art, girl, seriously ^.^

This is really beautiful. Not your usual style, yes, but works really well. It's hard for me to comment on this because it made me cry to watch this but anyways.. I really how you got so much emotion in here, how one can sense there's so much between these two people and how they love each other. But then there's something in the expression, something so sad, that they have only this moment here and don't know will there ever be one more. I like it. And you did the eyes very well, you got so much emotion in them though they're closed.

Thank you so much... I really do appreciate it *many s*

It... brought tears to your eyes? It's funny, because, well, when I first drew the original sketch for this picture, it was a thing of combined sorrow, and love, and it too made me cry. Yes, indeed, there is sadness... but a kind of mutual comfort and refuge together, if but for a moment.

Yeah. I just broke up with my boyfriend and well, this is pretty close to my heart for that reason. Love and sorrow. But even without that it would've touched me.

Something about this just really drew me to it... You managed to draw such a tender moment so perfectly. I love their profiles, such beautiful people! The shading is great, the soft highlights on their noses, cheekbones and lips. Your lineart is so gorgeously smooth and I love the way it tapers and thickens, it's really dynamic. The girl's hand looks so pretty, it just follows through from the arm so fluidly, and it's shaded wonderfully. I absolutely love this, it's so gorgeous... something about it makes me feel so soft inside... X3 That sounded a little odd. Must add this to my favourites

Thank you so much... This piece means an immense amount to me - the characters are like spirit guardians to me, they've been around so long and have been so helpful. It was drawn after overcoming a very difficult time, and it was meant to acknowledge the role they play in my life, and also as a representation of how my love (represented by Luke, whose name means "bringer of light") has also helped me through the dark.

Now, I don't expect anyone to know of this, but the meanings I tried to convey are all related to this. Indeed, a kind of sadness and vulnerability, but also love and affection and closeness to overcome it. I'm glad you've felt the tenderness I meant to express, and that for you too it had something significant about it.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts with me.

Aww... Thanks so much (again) - I really do appreciate such wonderful comments and feedback, and it's encouraging to know that at least some of what I feel is properly translated into others. It makes art feel much more worthwhile, although even if no one liked my art, I'd still make it for myself... and for my characters.

It may seem egocentric, but the only print currently on my wishlist is this one, my own... but it's truly the one image so far that means the most to me. I've been thinking about ordering myself one... well... along with a bunch of other, less meaningful things X3

Oh, I adore it so much! You captured such a feeling of tenderness and love...it really makes my heart ache but in a good way

The dark colours make them seem...secluded, away from everyone and everything else in their own little world I guess

This is truly a wonderful piece of art that perfectly captures the tender moment shared by two who love each other very much...well done you!
