It's a little late. I said I wasn't going to do this, and then late in the day I was like, "Screw it. I WANT to do this." It's a little rushed, but I just wanted it to happen because it makes me happy, and I need that these days. ^_^

Anyway...

Happy Coming Out Day, everyone (that's a real thing, by the way)! Four years ago, just a little over a month before starting to post Rain, I came out on the internet about being trans on Coming Out Day (and was met with much more support than I could have ever imagined). So while it might seem like a stupid, arbitrary idea to some people, it actually holds a special place in my heart. XD

Since my own coming out, I've made it a bit of a tradition to out my own characters on Coming Out Day. A few years back, Randy from Rain came out as bisexual (and while never mentioned in the story, that's totally canon). Last year, I moved away from Rain (seeing as outing pretty much anyone else there would qualify as spoilers), and instead outed the entire main cast of another story I've talked about at length on DA, Shangri-La.

This year, I am featuring the main cast of Something Dark (title still kinda pending).

From left to right, we have:
Wren* (Pansexual)
Raquel** (Transgender/Straight)
Garry (Asexual/Aromantic)
Lane (Straight)

Now, this might not mean much to those of you who are seeing these characters for the first time... especially since this only amounts to the second time you've seen them at most. The truth is that to some extent I've just wanted to do this for myself. Although I have no intention of starting Something Dark any time soon, the story's actually been on my mind like crazy over the past month, and sometimes it helps to get these things out of my head. Between Rain pages, I've been jotting down some ideas for this to have available for the future when I am ready for it. Unfortunately, a lot of it I can't show. But I hate the idea of spending all that time working on something I can't talk about.

Hence we come full circle to a fun image of the main characters that does teach us some things about these characters (and hopefully, I won't be the only one that thinks it's fun). In the actual story, no such terminology will likely be explicitly stated. All orientations and identities are presented in canon in a more subtle manner rather than outright stating it. Unlike Rain, this story isn't really ABOUT such themes, so stressing it would feel out of place. That said, while emphasizing it might feel out of place though, portraying a cast of characters who "happen to be what they are" feels just fine. No hiding. No judging. Just being.

Anyway, it's late and rushed, but I'm happy I got it out there. I hope you all had a lovely Coming Out Day whether you actually came out or not. And if you happen to be planning on coming out to someone (or several someones) on any other day, I wish you the very best when you do! ^_^

* Last time we saw Wren , she didn't have a name (I asked for suggestions, in fact). I didn't even (directly) state she was part of this story. She is. And she's officially Wren now. Man, I'm glad I got that off my chest. XD

** If you've been paying attention, you might recall that in the original announcement of this story, Raquel's name was going to be Alexis. This has changed. You see, I already have a trans character with an "Alex-variant" name in another story (something I overlooked somehow), so I decided I didn't want to keep their names both the way they were. I feared I might cause needless confusion if I had two prominent trans Alexes in two different stories, you know.

Alex might remain Raquel's rarely (if ever) mentioned boy name as a bit of a throwback, but that's about it.
