Description Batman & co. are propery of DC/Time-Warner.

These are some scrawls I been doing the last few days - I haven't had the energy to put much into any of the other projects I've got going on what with the holidays and all. In any case, this the first of a few pages' worth of rough sketches I did within the vein of my previous Bat-redesign stuff:

Anyway, the focus of this one seemed to be Robin - who in this variation is meant to be Barbara Gordon - with a bent toward a retro-Golden Age look and a couple hints of the Neal Adams look.

Some of you are probably wondering what compelled me to put Babs in the Robin suit as opposed to Dick or Tim, or either of the other female Robins (Stephanie Brown/Spoiler, and Carrie Kelly in "The Dark Knight Returns"). That's I kind of explained above with the comments I made on "The Dynamic Duo", but what I thought up was this: essentially, part of Bruce's training on "the quest" was in a traveling circus where he took up acrobatics with the Flying Graysons for a time, eventually befriending young John Grayson as they were probably about the same age at the time. When Bruce re-emerged in Gotham as Batman, Babs - still working an internship as a police archivist despite friction with the new anti-vigilantist Commissioner Ellen Yindel (recall from above that her dad would be in a coma) - ended up saving his life in an attempt on hers (by her dad's assailants, no less), commandeering the Batmobile out of the city until the auto-pilot kicked on and took it back to the Batcave. Finally learning Batman's true identity, and realizing he was presently in no condition to mount a counterattack on his own, she and Alfred patched together a body-armor suit of her own based on the caped jumpsuit Bruce had kept in the cave as one of his 'momentos'. And thus, in this reimagined universe, the duo of Batman & Robin was born.

Yeah, I pretty much made that up on the spot. Not very original, I know, but I figure later on when the Graysons return to the U.S. to perform in Gotham, their getting capped in mid-act would drive their teenage son Richard to vengeance in something a lot less colorful than a red vest and yellow cape *koff*Nightwing*koff*.
