Description "You told us you'd return in a month," she hisses coldly. "It's been three, Rockatansky. We thought you were dead. "
Max looks away and shifts further off his left foot, hoping Furiosa won't notice.
She notices. "What happened to you?"
Max sighs shortly and reaches down, slowly lifts the leg of his pants upward, just up to his ankle. All that can be seen is blood, frozen in a dried river downwards onto the top of his boot.
"Ran into a rogue party on my way back. Got busted up by one of their cars while trying to escape, but they got me. It was some of your warboys that finally came and ganked 'em."
Furiosa doesn't react with shock or horror - she's seen far too much like this in her lifetime for it to be disturbing. Instead, she just massages her forehead with her hand. "We thought you were dead," she repeats in a mutter.
Max watches her expression. Every now and then her wild green eyes will flit up angrily, shining with what might be tears, as hard as it is to believe, and squinting against conflicting emotions.
He does all he can think to do when she's mad at him like this. He pulls his arms out of their petulant cross and, just barely, opens them outwards.
"I'm sorry," he grunts. To anyone else his voice would be unemotive and blank, but he knows that she can read his rumbling murmurs.
With a shaking sigh Furiosa lurches forward and lands square in her friend's chest, wrapping her arm and prosthesis around his shoulders and burying her head among layer upon layer of sand-dusted clothing. In return, he pulls her in closer, placing a gentle hand on the back of her scruffy head and another over her lame arm.
"No more, Max," she whispers shakily. "No more leaving."
"No more," he agrees, nodding gently against her temple.
    "I need you here."
"I'll stay," he says. Just that - he doesn't mention that, while imprisoned, she and the girls were all he could think about, that he'd wondered day in and day out whether or not they were worried. He doesn't mention that, even before his capture, he'd park on dusty plateaus and watch the sunset from the hood of his car, overcome with the unfamiliar pang of homesickness. And he makes sure he doesn't mention that on the worst evenings of this he'd curl up in the backseat of the car and snivel into the upholstery because dear God, he didn't know it was possible to miss someone this intensely.
No, Max is silent as usual, but he doesn't really need to say any more than he already has. He knows Furiosa can read it all in his shaking arms, wrapped tightly around her wiry frame as she hides herself against his beating chest.

whoops
as y'all know i don't ship these two romantically but by GOD do i love the idea of them hugging the shit out of each other

I prefer to think of Max as the lone wolf. He needs to leave everyone in order to survive.

Oh, I dunno - how many times did Furiosa have to save his ass throughout the movie? It can also be important for sufferers of PTSD to have close contact with people they trust to help reassure them, too, as far as I'm aware. Max has always kinda been a family man, deep down.

Well well yeah, but like as you said he is a sufferer of PTSD. But like that is why he can't stay. Because since he lost someone he doesn't want to suffer through that again. Plus like Max is just a guy right, so like well in all the movies he is saved by someone else. Like in Road Warrior, Feral Kid needed to save him many times. So like he isn't any John McClain, and needs a hand once in a while. Don't think I was saying your drawing sucked or it's a bad concept. Sorry if you thought that. I'm just blabbering my thought as seeing that in every movie it always ends with him going off into the wasteland (Ha wasteland is the name of the next movie) so him leaving is always how Max is as far as the films go.

Oh no, I wasn't offended! Don't worry about it; everyone's got their own views on the character. Hell, some people even see him as some sort of etheral being as an explanation of why tiny details in the franchise never match up (son becomes a daughter in Fury Road, etc), despite the consisten director throughout. And if we're being honest, I really like that idea too!

Anyways, it's no problem at all. I personally read Max as being someone who needs to be taught to trust again, and Furiosa as the one who helps him through it, but I can totally understand seeing him as a lone wolf too!

Also, oh man, SHIT I'm excited for Wasteland. Tom and Charlize are already signed on. B)

What if Tom Hardy's Mad Max isn't the Mad Max? Think, so George Miller says that the Mad Max trilogy is like Saturday cartoons, each episode is a new story but things will be different and out of order as the previous episode but there will still be little nods to the previous episodes, but regardless they always kept Max's origins the same in all first 3 films, but this time he had a little daughter who died from some drivers similar to that of Immortan Joe's war boys rather then an infant son and wife who die by motorcyclists, Max in the beginning of Fury Road had long hair, yeah yeah ik he had long hair in Thunderdome, but you know who else had long hair Feral boy in Road Warrior, Max in Fury Road makes grunting noises rather then speech and when he does speak it sounds like he doesn't know English that well, some say this is because he has been away from civilization for so long that he knows no other voices then in his head and forgot his own voice, you know who else made sounds like an animal and never spoke, Feral boy, and Max lost his Interceptor V8 in Road Warrior and in Thunderdome it never makes an appearance because it was destroyed, in this one he has the Interceptor but it looks warn down or too rugid as it use to, that may be an indication it was fixed by someone. But the biggest thing is the music box, r=in Road Warrior, Max gives Feral boy a music box and in Fury Road Max has a music box. That's right what if Max in Fury Road is really Feral boy only older. Because after the events in Road Warrior, Feral boy may have been inspired by Max and so he became the next Mad Max. Just saying it makes sense to me at least.

But your drawing is very nice and I think your right that Max can be taught to trust again, but I think Max can trust but he needs to always leave so that if the ones he trusts die, he won't suffer again.

And Wasteland better come out at least in this decade! I'm not waiting another 30 years (even though I'm not even close to 30) for another Mad Max. If Miller has the ideas he claims while making the story for Fury Road and will wait to put them in the other films, then Wasteland should just be as bloody AMAZING! SO bloody pumped!

Hmmm, that is a very VERY cool theory! I really need to watch Road Warrior again. It's been WAY too long.

Ayways, thanks so much! And yes, Wasteland'll be spectacular. Miller is such a good director, and hey, I'm always up for a sequel that includes everyone's favorite Imperator.

Feral boy is the best kid in any movie, he is like a little, non talking Furiosa.

Ok Wasteland better be good like so good that if I die from watching Wasteland I want to go to Valhalla and be like, damn I am so glad I saw in my mortal form. But like Happy Feet 2 wasn't that good and Babe 2: Pig in the city wasn't as good as the original. But don't get your hopes down, Miller blow people out of the water when he made the first sequel to Mad Max, how much more better, gritterer and just action packed it was then any other film. Road Warrior made sequel look good before the Dark Knight ever was thought of. And really, Mad Max is like George Miller's baby, he wouldn't let it go down and after Fury Road, 30 fucking years of no Max and when every other director that returns to a franchise after a long absence (e.g. Indiana Jones 4, Star Wars prequels, Brad Bird returning to Disney) they always suck and Miller is the exception, so let's all give him the moneys so that Wasteland will be just as incredible!

You should just go back and watch all 3 Mad Max in my opinion, one isn't enough!

And I don't know how they will put Furiosa back, they never bring anyone from the previous movies into the next movies in Mad Max, besides Max.

Oh totally - I think Mad Max has reached its turning point with Fury Road. It can only get better from here, now that it's so recognized by the public.

And yeah, it is an odd little change from the norm - but it seems like Wasteland is actually meant to be more of a sequel to Fury Road, as opposed to a whole 'nother Mad Max flick. At least, I hope so. I think the characters and general setting in FR are just too good to let go of yet!

Honestly, if you didn't know what Mad Max was before FR, where have you been for the last 30 years?

And I think Miller will just keep introducing new characters, but he says Immortan Joe will be in the other films as they are set to be prequels. Which is a cool idea because Fury Road just starts off with Max standing out in the middle of no where, and it's like why is he there?

Well, really, the series isn't widely talked about compared to other action franchises, especially not with my generation (I mean, the franchise has been virtually dead for the past few decades!). Fury Road was what reintroduced it to the mainstream public, at least in my experience.
