I absolutely love your insect/bug photos. I think you do a brilliant job at photographing. And I'm seriously jealous, lol.

Thank you
It's not that hard, it only takes patience and practice and besides there actually not that good.

Thank you, actually the 18-55 is a fantastic lens, sure it could use an USM constant f2.8 and better build quality, but it still does the job quite well

Sure is! Patience helps too! Remember, its not the camera its the person. You did a fantastic job! I am saving up for a macro lense though. 100mm f2.8L. Cant wait! I basically dont try macros at the moment because im never happy with them!

good lens, but you won't be that happy with the results from that either, even though it has stabilization you will probably need a tripod or a flash, depending on your style and what you shoot, that's why i'm getting a flashgun next week
The problem is the higher the magnification the shallower the DoF, the smaller the aperture and the higher the ISO to get a fast enough shutter speed to freeze your subject, the result is that handheld at f16 sometimes even direct sunlight isn't enough (with no IS though)

ill have to disagree. Sounds like you should do some research (no offence intended or implied). You haven't seen macro until youve hopped on over to 500px.com
On the macro note check out this youtube video.

How funny i was gonna send you the same video (it's the best macro video i've seen), and i did my research and i have a macro lens so i know what i'm talking about (i also have a 500px account).
Also the guy in the video uses a flashgun so he proves my point
What do you disagree with exactly ? maybe you misunderstood what i was saying.

It seems you arent a fan of macro lenses. Now if they didn't work any better (for its purpose) than regular lenses, they wouldnt sell any.
PS. I have a speedlite, a tripod and some spare time.

Dude, where are you getting this info from ? i didn't save up for months to buy a macro lens because i think they're worse than my 18-55, i just said that you need a tripod or a flashgun to get the best results, i didn't make this up, ask any macro photographer and they will tell you the same.
P.S. I still don't know what you are disagreeing with

Oh it seemed like you said don't bother to me. All good, misunderstanding. What pics of yours have been taken with your macro?

Why would i say that ? anyway, i just bought the lens so i don't have a lot of photos done with it especially ones that would be good enough to upload to dA, but here is one [link]
Taking good macro shots is hard, the slightest breeze and your subject is out of focus or even out of the frame, so i need to practice and shoot more with it.
But keep an eye out for my latest photos, there should be some done with it sooner or later.

Yep I understand all that. I used my mates tamron 60mm freehand. Got some alright shots freehand (using his camera) but definitely needed a tripod and remote shutter (which I have both).
Shooting tethered helps for hard to focus on stuff too! Remote/Focus and unlimited storage all in one.

yeah but you can't really shoot tethered in the field, i should give it a shot at home though, never tried it
