Your custom preset really works great on him and fits the breed. Unfortunately our dog don't play ball, he goes catch, flatten, chew...

Thank you, It started out as a test of the hair setting for the 3d model and then I tried to add a little more realism

Did you make the background? Because the ground looks like a few 3d rendered blades of grass and a texture to represent the ground. Kind of jarring look to it. Everything else is great though. I just like to point out the flaws instead of just gawking at it and saying "oooh it's sooooo good"

He’s so adorable! I wish they’d come out with some really fluffy hair so I could make my Bailey. The wolf hair isn’t thick enough.

that'd be great. Maybe like a hair preset for the models... It'd be nice to just add it and not have to mess with any other programming thing

Thank you, I had several Dachshund growing up. The first one "Ginger"was very chill and not very active. She was also very fat, so we put it on a diet and she started eating everything in the garden off the vine. "Wolfy" was the second one we owned and was very active and ball obsessed. I have met some very "Yippy" Dachshunds but neither of ours were that way.
I haven't considered making a tutorial on LAMH because I am still learning how to use it. Plus Alessandro already has so many great tutorials out there.
I created my LAMH preset for DAZ Dog 8 after watching this tutorial [ www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrNoiZ… ]
I basically use this process to convert the LAMH presets to use in Iray [ www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFex8X… ]
This is basically my process. I wait until I have the scene the way I want it, "SAVE" then use "to OBJ" from the LAMH plug-in, wait until it's done converting and then render. I always delete the OBJ afterwards because it takes forever to save the file with the OBJ in the scene. Most of the time I also convert the LAMH OBJ material to "Iray Uber Base" and turn down the glossiness.
I usually group everything in the scene so that I can hide them seperately. That way I can preview just the hair and dog before render if I need to in the standard Iray preview. I also found that turning the "SubD level" on Dog8 down to 1 speeds things up dramatically. You can also reduce number in the hair quality to speed up previewing. I just picked 600,000 because it was a trade off between quality and speed, more hairs will give better quality but really increase conversion time. You might be able to get away with less hairs.
PS I forgot to mention, don't group the LAMH group. Leave it separate like the way it gets generated, it crashes DAZ every time I try to group it.

Thanks for the tuts! That will save a lot of time selecting and de-selecting polys to add or subtract from the hairs-to-be. I tried the obj with the hivewire house cat, but somehow it wouldn't render. I'll re-try tonight. And thanks for the tip with no regrouping!

Thank you, I had a few Dachshund's growing up, so they will always have a special place in my heart. I was concerned the fur was too subtle. I just used my preset and made the length really short and tried to get that sheen that their fur seems to have

Thank you my friend, He would push that football around the yard like a madman when he was bored. This started out as just a test of the Dachshund model and how to create some short hair. Then it became something very personal to me and my families memories.
