Illustration for Magic the Gathering from 2017. Art direction by Mark Winters. One of my early illustrations for Magic. I remember the character had a helmet on and I was so glad when the AD had me remove it. They eyes are over-the-top but I was real worried about it being visible when printed at card size. After all it's not a creature card so the MOST important things to convey are glowing eyes that match too-large-glowing-sword. Anyways, it was a challenging brief to hand to a noob Magic artist as they had talked like they might hold off on giving me many characters and then I got a character in the middle of a battle.
