Kathleen, mavourneen, the grey dawn is breaking,
the horn of the hunter is heard on the hill
The lark of her light wing, the bright dew is shaking
Kathleen, mavourneen, what! Slumbering still...

I think you would love living in my area. I'm in Hampton, Virginia and it's Civil War heaven around here. In fact, we have Armistead Avenue and Magruder Blvd. Not to to mention George Washington Plaza!

I fully intend to move south one day. I'm currently just under the Pennsylvania border in Maryland, fifteen minutes away from Gettysburg. (I'm originally from Long Island, New York.)

My aunt and uncle live in Disputanta (I hope I spelled that right!) I would absolutely love to live down there. Do you enjoy all of the history?

I was VERY much into the Civil War when I moved down here and was thrilled at all the historical sites. Not to mention the Revolutionary War history that I'm surrounded by. I live about nine miles from Yorktown, I mean, how much better can it get than that?

That's SO awesome! I am absolutely in love with any kind of history (and learning in general, for that matter). I went to Yorktown years ago, and I've always wanted to go back. It always amazed me that Yorktown played such an important part in the Revolution, and then again was a jumping point for the sweep up the James River in the Civil War. Amazing how history unfolds, isn't it?

You can just feel all those vibrations yet too when you go there, it's just like you can feel the spirits surrounding you of soldiers from both eras. I am very interested in the paranormal also and recorded a voice at Moore House. I'm even in a book about it, The Ghosts of Virginia by L.B. Taylor. And to think that at Surrender Field in Yorktown is where America began, where the French laid down their weapons. It's just too awesome!

I know exactly what you mean. It's amazing -and an honor- to be able to walk in the same places as our ancestors did. And you really can feel them speaking to you.

And by the way, that's awesome about you being in a book! Tell me about that voice! I have a few ghost stories of my own!

I was on a tour in Moore House where George Washington signed the treaty ending the Revolutionary War, and I was using an analog tape recorder to tape the tour guide as he spoke. When I played it back later, there was a strange voice on there that shouldn't have been there. My brother slowed the tape down and we heard a young man's voice, the first two words were "Help Moore.." but we couldn't make out the rest. Then I read in one of L.B. Taylor's books that a psychic had seen a young man standing at the bedroom window, looking out. So I sent my tape to L.B. and he gave me my own chapter in one of his books.

That is so awesome! So "Help Moore." Did something ever happen to Moore? Did he get really sick at some point or need serious help?

My buddies and I are up in Gettysburg all the time. Towards the end of summer a few years ago, we went up there in the evening just to enjoy the last weekend before school started up again. It was cool, quite, and nobody else was out. And as we were walking over the part of the battlefield where Pickett's Charge culminated, we got onto the subject of life after death and how we all fit into God's plan.

And to our left on a rock we noticed someone sitting there, staring out across the field where the Confederate infantry made their attack. He was wearing what looked like a Union uniform (it was dusk by this point) and so we figured he was a reenactor. So we walked a little further and decided to turn around and go get something to eat. The guy was gone.

Where we were was open and we could see the road, the field, where we parked, and there was no one walking away or anywhere in sight. So either a reenactor played a joke on us and ran and hid, or it was a ghost. So we got a little scared and a little excited, and went to go get something to eat.

That is not an uncommon occurrence in Gettysburg, from what I've heard. Have you seen the video on Youtube of images of soldiers just walking in and out of trees? It was somewhere in Gettysburg but it was amazing footage. I'm constantly watching programs on the paranormal and there are so many stories about Gettysburg, it's quite an active place. My friend Pam really wants to go there sometime. I've only been there once when I was a kid. Thanks for sharing you story with me, that is very cool!

I always hear Gettysburg referred to as the most haunted place in America. I would not be surprised if it really was true. I've had so many unexplainable things happen there.

I'll have to look that up on Youtube! Thank you for the heads up!

Have you ever seen the movie Gettysburg or read Shaara's "The Killer Angels"?

I did own the movie Gettysburg at one time, not sure where it is now though. It's an amazing movie, very accurate regarding the battle. Have you seen the entire Civil War series by Ken Burns? That is what really turned me on to the Civil War, it just brought it to life for me.

It is quite amazing. Did you see Gods and Generals?

And the music from Gettysburg is stunning.

Yes, I have seen the Ken Burns Civil War series. I think I saw it for the first time when I was in second or third grade. It was as amazing now as it was then.
