Interesing, low value contrast but high hue contrast. Challenges my initial expectations and treads new territory for me creatively. Almost seems like an indexed color scale, yet the reflections in the water also make it seem more real than the fantasy version. Like if I were to view the atom bomb going off in real life with the naked eye it might look something like this. More of an impressionistic version than the perfectly photographed mushroom cloud, and the emotional response says more than the technical. The vertical flare separates the image in two, just as the event might cut the viewer's world in two.

I was never good at this kind of thing. I remember in art lessons being given the idea of how this kind of painting works, not to draw the thing but draw the *idea* of the thing.
Could never get my head around it, always put too much thought and time into little details.

This kind of stuff fascinated me, I can see the distinct colours here and there, I can see the simplicity of it, but I can never grasp the ability to use small strokes and lines to depict something beyond mere splats of paint.

It's incredibly beautiful work and I'm greatly envious of your talent

Actually - I've got the same problem - I've never taken any art lessons but I always tend to get stuck on small details and the outcome isn't as good as I wanted it to be. So I decided I would practice with just a grayscale shading to achieve.. ..something. I never have any idea when I start playing with this approach. Anyway, thank you, I'm glad you like it
