Poking fun aside, splitting watermelons on the beach is popular in Japan. It is called Suikawari and it is a game played in Japan mainly during the summertime. You play like you would when hitting a pinata in which you are blindfolded. The first to split the watermelon open wins. Then everybody gets to eat watermelon afterwards so, really, everybody wins.
