Description Get 'em Ayn!

Taking a break from working on the comic to draw a quick scene from a way older thing in the moods of the season.

Also, this is my part of art-trade-thingy we decided to do with The idea was to draw a character we haven't drawn in a while.

Wow! I love the action in this one! The moment and strong feeling of determination really brings this still image to life~ I love how you did the blood and the peoples expressions, also the colours you used really help the mood! The harsh lighting with the bright white highlights really adds a sharp intense feeling to the moment as well!

Though it seems like a simple image at first, strait and to the point, again adding to the intense moment, I'm finding new details as I look at it, finding that I can't quite tear my eyes away~ I love this image!

Wow! Comments like that really make the effort I put in practicing feel totally worth it!

The feel of the image is actually pretty much the same as the day I painted this. I wanted to combine the heat of a battle with a cold bite of late autumn here in the north. Also, I think this turned out to be pretty good practice for the comic XD

Aww, I'm glad! I like to really take time looking at art and really exsamine what I like about them~ This one really hit me, and made me feel like I was almost part of the action~

Oh, that is so cool! You definatly captured those two feelings well!
I can imagine! Art like this would be amazing in a comic!

Heh, thanks again! I've always been about all those lil' details when drawing. Actually I've tried to cut that down slightly in my more recent pieces since it gets easily to the point that I spend half the time working on tiny details that hardly even show in the finished pic XD

This was so fun that I'll definitely try and do more action shots like this in the future :'D

Haha, yes, it can be hard to find a good balance~ But details really can be fun to do~

Yay~ I think you do an awesome job with them, so I would be excited to see them if you ever do~

Wow, thanks! I've actually tried to put more thought in the composition of my pieces to practice for drawing comics.

Thanks! I've spent the last year or so focusing mostly on practising lighting, so I'm quite happy if it shows

wow. Where did you go learn it or was it self taught?

jogeart In reply to Morigalaxy [2014-11-05 17:49:50 +0000 UTC]

I've had the basic technical training for digital illustration at school, but apart from that I'm mostly self-taught.

Of course having an opportunity to watch people likeΒ Rosaka-Origo Β work first hand has taught me a lot. Now that I think about it I've probably learned more from my friends at school than from any teacher XD

Yeah, I can understand that. I find it more rewarding to watch other artist draw than to be taught at school.

Me too! Plus you can learn a lots of stuff that isn't taught in any school :'D

;_; yeah. why can't they make a school like that.

Indeed! Though I can imagine a concept like that might be kinda hard to put into practice. But I guess streaming and communities like DA offers a bit similar opportunities for learning, in a way

Yea dude, speed is something I k of nothing of, I'm all about those tedious blades of grass, and the perfect bouncing light and stuff. I figure once I learn all the good stuff, then I can speed it up to a professional level. But taking that into consideration, this piece is very good well done man and thanks for the detailed response (for that I'm putting this comment on the actual painting )

Thanks! And yeah, that seems like a perfectly good way to improve your art and skills. Until recently I used to spend easily more than 20 hours on one piece brushing up every little detail, so I can see where you're coming >;D

But since I'm currently working on a comic I've been experimenting with ways to work quickly and still get reasonably good results. So if I can drop the times from ~20 hours to 2-4 hours per piece I don't really mind the results being a bit sloppy, as long as the story and expression comes through.

Haha I'm still learning how to compose a painting, and be efficient at all. I'm basically doing full on, single brush painting ad it is. I have no idea what brushes to use, or how to size down my paintings to give crisper finishes, or any of that. It kills me lol. I think doing what you're doing is very beneficial to you future as an illustrator. I need to catch on

I think it's best to first learn how to do things right and well, and focus on polishing and finishing pieces. And once you have that down you can start practicing speed. I think it's always best toΒ work on your own terms whenever possible.

I don't know if this is much of a pointer but for the past couple of years I've been mostly using only 2 different brushes: one basic round brush with shape dynamics, transfer and smoothing. And one rectangular brush with shape dynamics, dual brush and smoothing settings enabled. As for down sizing, it is a common practice to start working in at least 300 dpi which is the usual resolution for printed media, and then down sizing it to 72 dpi once you're done. While down sizing you can also adjust the dimesions of the image to better fit a computer screen (often something like 600px - 1050px high and 1280px - 1920px wide).
