Description Oil on 20"x24" canvas. On to Trafalgar is a depiction of H.M.S. Victory. In memory of the great naval victory obtained off the cape of Trafalgar, under Nelson over the combined fleets of France and Spain under Villeneuve, on oct. 21, 1805. On this occasion 27 ships of the line, with 2,138 guns, outfought 33 ships, mounting 2,640 guns. Nelson was mortally wounded by a musket ball from a sharp shooter as the battle was ending. In 1849 a monument known as the Nelson Column was erected to Admiral Nelson in Trafalgar Square, London.

You are very welcome! I love looking at ship artwork, and yours are some of the etter ones that I have seen on DA. ...I am not far at all from British Columbia at all; currently I am living there! My university is on Vancouver Island; I just started in the fall. I hope you had a great weekend too!

Cool, are you enjoying University life? what is your major? I am an older student at 53 and doing a graphic design program(A.S.)online, they are accelerated classes at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, the only negative things are it's only accredited like in the mid-western states here,
I am a glad to have met you Dragonheart...

I have a love-hate relationship with uni, since I am a first year earth and ocean sciences major (I am taking 5 intense courses, 4 of which have 3h labs ). It is just a struggle to stay on top of things. I was kinda sad that I couldn't take an art elective, but oh well. How are you finding doing online classes?

I am glad to have met you too! Would you like to be friends on DA?

Hi DragonHeart, I like the online classes even though they are accelerated, 5.5 weeks for 10 weeks, ouch! One of the reasons is, I was able to transfer in with 33 credits and most of the general ed.out of the way,but there are classes in different areas of design, using photoshop and illustrator, which i never used until Feb.of 2010,plus I work independently pretty good, it is very interesting and I hope to grad. at the end of 2013, I hope it pays off after all the time and and paying back st.loans, another ouch! yes we can be friends on DA. I have been working on a painting off and on for two months now, might be done sometime soon.

Accelerated classes... >.< But it seems to be working really well for you! One of these days I need to figure out how to use digital art programs and start playing around with them, though it probably won"t be for ages as I don't have much spare time in university. All my art so far is painting or drawing with the odd other traditional medium, and photography from trips (including a trip on a tall ship at the end of the summer! ). I wish I had time to paint and was able to bring my acrylic paints out here. I don't even have any time to draw...got a couple things outlined from the summer but still in need of colouring! I'd love to try painting a tall ship one day, wonder how that would go with acrylics (no idea how to do water though). Which type of ship are you painting?

I know about the spare time thing. I have only been using the computer since 09, and had to do some extreme learning to get what little distance i have in photoshop and illustrator. There is a lot of writing and everything has to be MLA which is pretty easy compared to APA writing. I don't mind doing the research on different areas of graphic design. The ship I am working on is one of the two American whaling ships that made it into the 20th century,The Wanderer, sadly it was blown on the rocks in the early 1900's and sank. The civil war is to blame for sinking hundreds of whalers because they all came from northern ports, what a shame! Now there is only one whaler, The Charles W. Morgan which is a floating museum. You can paint sail boats a ships in acrylic. I would like to see some of your pictures.

[link] and [link] are the two best tall ship pics I currently have in my gallery. There are a couple more in my gallery, all on the most recent page. I'm hoping to put up some more of my two summers ago tall ship trip (I took a lot more pictures on it than I did on this summer's one), but midterms are fast approaching so I don't know when that will be. That's so sad that so many ships sank. Looking forward to seeing your whaler!
