Over the last year, I've been listening to a lot of music from people who've appeared on Steven Universe (Nicki Minaj, Estelle, Susan Egan, etc.), and of those Broadway legend Patti LuPone (Yellow Diamond) has been one of my favorites to the point where as of this typing I've heard the soundtracks for five different stage productions that feature her to some capacity (the 1979 US premiere of Evita, the original London production of Les Miserables, the 1987 revival of Anything Goes, the 2005 revival of Sweeny Todd, and the 2008 revival of Gypsy) and I'd already seen her in Driving Miss Daisy which I watched nearly a year before she first appeared on Steven Universe.

Soon I began to think "When is she gonna sing on this show?" because in a series where singing is a theme you don't cast someone whose been a stage actress for four and a half decades and not expect her not to at some point. So when Deedee Magno (Pearl) revealed at the 2016 Florida Supercon that she had just recorded a song with Yellow Diamond and Yellow Pearl I was like "Yes please!".

And low and behold, guess what ended up happening in the show six months later!
