Shang Tsung is an evil and ancient sorcerer who consumes the souls of warriors to keep his youth. Shang betrayed his realm of Earth to serve the otherworldly emperor of Outworld, Shao Kahn. He played host to the Mortal Kombat tournament, and maintained a victory streak of nearly 500 years, almost winning Shao Kahn the right to conquer Earth. But when he was defeated by the warrior Liu Kang, his steak was over and he nearly fell out of favor with the emperor. But the ever scheming Shang Tsung had hatched a plan for this very occasion; one that would allow his master to bypass the sacred tournament and take Earth for himself. Impressed, Shao Kahn granted Shang enough souls to restore him to his prime. Before the plan comes to fruition, Shang Tsung joins his master in an effort to eliminate the Earthrealm warriors who may stand in their way. Shang hopes to get revenge on the monk Liu Kang and add his soul to his collection. Ultimately, Shang plans to use his cunning skills to achieve eternal life.
