Description The Common Bear Ape (Ursussimiae mortiferum) is a member of an odd group of carnivorous primates, built for pursuit predation like wolves and/or bears. Although its hands are much less dexterous, Bear-Apes can still grab things.

Although they aren't actually descended from humans (Bear Apes are more closely related to chimps and gorillas), I'd imagine people seeing these creatures as a human/bear hybrid.
And no, there aren't any upright walking Bear Apes, they're specialized for a quadrupedal lifestyle.
