Description A lone Merman, dauntlessly wielding a weapon forged by the remains of some of the most dangerous creatures of the deep, finds himself ambushed after inadvertently intruding upon the courting ritual of a mating pair of mysterious deep sea Serpents. With his spear-like tool clasped firmly in hands, the merman exudes eery confidence and an intimidating disposition reinforced by the successes that his battle-filled life has brought him in the past... Similarly unfazed, the encircling serpents disperse chunks of semi-digested meat from their last victim as a warning gesture to the seemingly stubborn intruder to leave, or meet a grim fate.

Thanks so much! I'm so glad you think so, I was concerned my penchant for the weird and creepy might not be received too well so it's an honor to know you like my work and find them unique! Thanks for the comment, I'll definitely do more in the future! And sorry for the late reply!

Such mind blowing detail yet kind of Impressionistic too...looks like it took years to do. Love the free focus of this one. makes the menace all the more mesmeric - the way it would grab you if seeing for real... The word like a graphic novel I would definitely read.

Thank you so much Andrew! Yeah, this one definitely took me a while . Once again your words resonate exactly with what I was aiming for. I'm aspiring to draw and write a graphic novel so it means so much to me that you think my work is worthy!!

TheAnimalsRight In reply to JohnPatsakios [2013-04-22 11:45:54 +0000 UTC]

Way beyond worthy I'd say, in fact, I actually surprised you don't already stuff out there on the shop shelves. You certainly have that visceral touch for such work. That line for example about the semi-digested meat warning gesture just blew me away.

I suppose if you see anything in my gallery that interests you you're free to use it for your card game, same rules apply from this one though - just don't make money from them or take credit for the images.

I must say this is a great work. ^^

Although I'm not quite sure where you wanted to have your focus by reading your piece (I'm guessing it's the spear by reading the text).
Because everything is rendered so well it loses it's dynamics.
Giving the serpents a different color might also indicate the difference between your main character and his opponents.
Hope this was of some use to ya ;D

JohnPatsakios In reply to sweetangel0467 [2013-04-22 05:22:48 +0000 UTC]

The focus suggestion is fantastic advice - thanks! I certainly do get carried away sometimes! XD I guess with this piece I was aiming for more of an even, rhythmic flow, attempted through the use of curling forms, in order to allude to a more surreal feel and less of a "fight scene" look. I've just relied on the cliche of centering the main subject to provide some kind of focus, but you're right, it probably would've been more successful if I paid more attention to making a particular element stand out.
