Description Another picture from my DMV concept. The vehicle in the air above our heroine is a tow truck believe it or not.

The thought behind this picture was a possible slogan for the story:

"It's 2076, do you know where your car is?"

I would LOVE to see this as a regular comic series.

It's funny. Unlike with the Hench Bunnies, I didn't create America Jones with the intent to create a sex symbol. I just wanted to create an ass kicking meter-maid. I suppose it's ultimately my fault for using Nichelle Nichols as the physical template for the character.

What's sexier than a thickly-stacked, heavily-packed, foot-to-ass-chick?

A woman named America working for our most despised law enforcement branch on the nation's tri-centenial; it reminds me a bit of Martha Washington in Frank Miller's Give Me Liberty.

Finally someone notices the tricentennial connection.

I'm familiar with Give Me Liberty, but I've never actually read it. Never figured I'd be doing an accidental homage to Frank Miller.

It's funny. I didn't design AJ with a mind toward drawing "the sexy girl", but folks react to her as a sex symbol nonetheless.

Guess I'm just too used to drawing "that kind of girl."

Of course, I may have overcorrected with Repeat.

I think there's something about a fairly attractive woman in a uniform, particularly a fairly figure-hugging one, that just ratchets up her appeal.

lol, maybe.

Hehe "cooould be".

JohnStaton In reply to Night-Miner [2010-11-14 23:02:05 +0000 UTC]

Could be huh?

Back to the drawing board it is. I'm not really interested in having jokes where folks call Repeat "sir" by mistake. I was going for more of a Lina Inverse, small chested woman aesthetic.

Heh.

Aha I see, yeah Repeat does look just a bit too boyish.

The glowing engine rings remind me of those new "Dyson" fans. [link]
I do not suppose that is intentional?

JohnStaton In reply to phantomdotexe [2010-09-20 20:26:40 +0000 UTC]

Dyson is totally my hero , but this drawing was done years before he invented his critically bad ass fans.

Still it would work as a explanation behind the bladeless "hover hoops."

No? Well, who knows? Maybe he was inspired by you.

Either way, it's such a cool concept. I do not know how they work, but I know that my attention span is intensely attracted to the shiny and futuristic look.

What a cool image! I love the thick and pervasive colors. It really does blow me away; looking at all those shades and layers... it really strikes me as downright jaw-dropping!

I definitely like the 'quad-boot' on the aerial tow truck, as well as the super-impressive 'DMV' logo. Much more impressive now.

Thanks, I've really got to get around to doing newer color images for AJ. (Side note: She gets really pissed when you call her "Miss America". )

FYI, I designed smaller, cuter boots since I drew this.

What was her first name, again? Is "Columbia" too cheesy?

JohnStaton In reply to phantomdotexe [2010-09-23 23:39:51 +0000 UTC]

It's America.

That's why she gets pissed when she's called "Miss America".

Anyway, with "Columbia", it would be CJ.

*Facepalms* I should listen better.

Well, I just recently learned that the iconography of 'Lady Liberty' was originally called 'Columbia' in the sense of a female personification - and wanted to use it somehow. [link] (name)

hemm, the cars are kept like pokeball, or like the Dragon Ball series, In capsules, but even if the size is reduce, the weight is still a factor, so they need to be kept in meter style parking meters.

of course, that would be senceless

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JohnStaton In reply to zarsh009 [2008-12-07 17:58:40 +0000 UTC]

Yes it would, and it would negate the need for 50 story parking garages. Not to mention it's far beyond the technology in the story.

Yea, to me Anime=Cyberpunk. I loved Akira, Dominion, Ghost in the Shelll, BGC. Where the future isn't full of magic technology, and there's still problems ordinary bums have to rise up and solve, in the absence of glittering perfect idealists.

Despite the fact they're full of cyborgs and sentient machines, those futures always felt more authentic.

LOL, I love this stuff. I wish it was in hand! It evokes so much of what I loved in other mangas I read, like Dominion Tank Police or Bubblegum Crisis... this stuff is fantastic.

Fabulous piece. I really like the drawing style you work with - there's a lot of detail there, but the line-art still remains clear and clean. The contrast between the cel-style shading of the foreground, and the more traditional colouring of the sky is really novel, too.
