Description I'm not sure what if I got it right, but online dictionaries tell me "Mère Cabot" is "Mother Dog" in French. It's a childless apparition which wanders the streets, spiriting away unattended infants to raise them as her own. She's doesn't eat them or anything - just cares for them like a normal ghost-dog-mother would.

The mossy stuff growing on the carriage and the glowy background is sort of inspired by Mushishi.

I didn't make this for any reason in particular. Just didn't want to do a lab write-up.

Made in Flash.

EDIT: Some have brought to my attention that "Cabot" is a familiar form of "Dog" which could just as easily be replaced with "Pooch." Thanks, guys. But after looking at the alternatives, I've decided I like the sound of "Cabot" more.

chien de mère is mother dog in french, buddy.

Now that I spot the edit you made, I care not to erase what I've already written. Why, I don't know.

Anyways, Nice drawing. Always liked yours, and good luck with them in the future.

Better stories always have mothers eating their children, John.

On another note, geez, your artwork kicks Hayao Miyazaki's butt. And the ideas are more promising.

Wow. This is lovely. I'd never heard of the Mother Dog either, and I love that sort of thing.
Very nice.
Though, at a glance the dog looks a bit more like a rat or some rodent.

RLYCREEPY.
Then it abruptly stopped right in front of my window, and looked me in the eye.

I like all tha thought that went into the title.

Very facinating ghost design with decades of wear on the robe without any legs.

The light from below including the wheel shadow is very nice... both warm and creepy at the same time

I love the carrage design too

"mère cabot" is actually mother pooch.
the problem with translating online is that it doesn't take into account idioms.
and that's an idiom.
you've got the explanation of the idiom correct, it's just that online dictionaries tend to suck hard core 'cause they only translate each word individually, not the whole phrase all at once.

but it's so cute that it doesn't matter, and now that i've said all that i feel a little silly.....

Technically, "chien" is the proper term for dog in French.
The word "cabot" is on a familiar level.
Like going under the "-san" level in Japanese maybe?
Then again, "Mère cabot" does the job well as a name, better than "Mère chien" IMHO.

From what I recall, lab writeups were meant to be procrastinated as much as possible. Damn tedious pointless things... And, what better way to procrastinate than by drawing...

Nice pic! I quite like that ghostly-grey green and purple. That translation sounds right to me... not that I know French, but I've picked up a tiny smattering from film and such.
