Description I'm a big music buff, and Davy Jones' recent death reminded me that I've never posted this AMAZING find -- the original CENSORED version of the Abbey Road album cover!

By the time Abbey Road came out in 1969, the Monkees' fame was seriously on the wane. The powers-that-be that Apple Corp. decided that it would be for the best if The Monkees' musical contributions to this classic album were suppressed and it was presented as being solely a product of the Beatles. Monkee Peter Tork took this particularly hard, and it's long been thought that this incident was largely responsible for his departure from the group later that year. The always-mercurial Michael Nesmith followed not long after.

But now, enough time has passed that, finally, the REAL story can be told!!!

Thanks very much! The Monkees photo was just crying out for this treatment. I just wish I could have found it in color!

John Lennon once said "The Monkees" was the funniest show he's watched since "The Marx Brothers". That's an honorary compliment if I ever heard one!

Very nice. Was Davy Jones that short? I never assumed he was a very big guy, but he's like Joe Pesci sized.

A quick internet search shows that he was 5'3". They had him stand on a lot of boxes for group shots, since the other Monkees were all around 6'. Keep in mind I eyeballed the scale on this, so it's only an approximation at best.

Looks like you were pretty spot on! You did a great job on this, it's a little uncanny.

Thanks! The toughest part was digitally creating shadows for the four Monkees that matched the perspective and opacity of the four Beatles' shadows. There was a LOT of trial and error there!

Thanks very much! As soon as I saw the original (B&W) picture of the Monkees walking in single file, I knew I HAD to do it.
