At the time there wasn't a good Luigi pattern out there! But fear not, I carved Luigi a few years later!

I have a Wii but I never got MK for it, sadly. I think Double Dash might have been the last Mario Kart I got into. I should fix that.

Awesome! Some people are real sticklers when it comes to promoting their artwork outside of DA.
I really love these carvings, I can't do anything like this. I tried and failed miserably Halloween before last :/

Honestly, I usually get people just reposting my pumpkins on tumblr and reddit with no credit whatsoever, so a feature with a link back is totally awesome!
Pumpkins can take a lot of practice, and since most people only carve one day a year it can be hard to build up the skills. But I posted some tutorials this past October, so maybe then can help you out for next Halloween!

Other than zombie pumpkins, are there other sites you use for designs? Do you make any original patterns by hand or are they all based of pre-existing patterns / images? I'm always looking for new sites for inspiration and if you have any to recommend that'd be nice.
Also, tools of the trade? I noticed that on some of your shaved pumpkins, the work looks fairly smooth, which is not alwasy easy depending on the flesh of the pumpkin.

I use jammin pumpkins: [link] for a couple of patterns. I'll also use the pumpkin masters pattern books for more generic Halloween stuff sometimes. But most of what I do is my own patterns based off images. In that case I don't really make patterns as much as use the images as a pattern an adapt to the pumpkin as I go.
I have a bunch of tools, and I list them on the tutorial that I should have finished by tonight. But for smooth shading I use a dremel drill and clay loop type things. But you're right, it does depend on the pumpkin. I think fresher pumpkins end up smoother.

Dremel drills are totally awesome. I found it at one of the big hardware stores around this time of year a couple Halloween's ago, but I'm not sure if they still sell the kind for pumpkins
And I also finished the tutorial! It ended up taking all week to make, a lot longer than I expected x_x It mainly focuses on how I carve, but I hope it helps out!
