oh, a situation where an actually intimidating and impressive foe that is unstoppable by a pair of "should-be" competent male characters, is SOMEHOW able to be defeated by a poorly armored female character with a physique that is unrealistic to her actual strength, and do so with LITTLE effort and come out COMPLETELY unscathed.... and all because she's a female-lead character?

HOW ORIGINAL AND ENJOYABLE!

Sounds like you want to see manly men doing manly things. This comic probably isn't for you, but I'm sure there's another one somewhere on DA that can cater for your penis-craving better than I.

BurgerKingGhidorah In reply to jollyjack [2015-08-11 22:45:16 +0000 UTC]

no, I'd rather just see female characters in these kind of comic put on the same scale of practicality as the male characters. it just seems... stale, boring, cashed in, etc.? Funny too, because their really ARE no "HOORAH-MEN!" comics on here, since as you know, this is a mostly pervert-dominated art site. I'd rather want more comics of characters dealing with struggle, more than just "Look at how bad ass this woman/man can be because I say so!" with no actual rhyme or reason to his/her Β  ability.

you get what I mean?

Her badassery against the overly toothy monster speaks more about how sharp her sword is than how strong she is. Anyone can learn to swing a piece of metal, just like anyone can learn parkour. I see this more as a display of *skill* then physical prowess.
I do agree with the OP female lead trope being overused, but I'm just not seeing it here yet. When she bench presses the monster's corpse, then I'll agree with you completely.

I can see where you're coming from. But you're missing one key point. Swords are not something can swing around all nilly willy. These are still long, flat hunks of steel, that on average can weigh 8 pounds. And that's just a broadsword!

I think another thing i'm noticing with this comic is, she only cut off the creature's nose... So why did it topple over and die?!

You have the weight of swords all wrong. Quote:

"Medieval Swords are neither unwieldably heavy nor all alike - the average weight of any one of normal size is between 2.5 lb. and 3.5 lbs. Even the big hand-and-a-half 'war' swords rarely weigh more than 4.5 lbs. Such weights, to men who were trained to use the sword from the age of seven (and who had to be tough specimens to survive that age) , were by no means too great to be practical."(Oakeshott, Sword in Hand, p. 13)."

okay, but you're not even registering the immense size of the swords shown in this comic. also, they have a wide curved shape that only gets larger near the end. sorry, logic doesn't work in this case, thank you for playing.

Kailus-Roncar In reply to BurgerKingGhidorah [2015-08-22 03:06:36 +0000 UTC]

A properly balanced sword of any kind carry's it's own weight through the swing, and even minor training would allow someone to swing it with force. If it were a cleaver sword or a buster sword, both of which can weigh upwards of 80 lbs, then I would agree with you. Her occupation would demand training in swordsmanship, therefore whatever strength she has would be channeled into the swing.

I know from experience that swinging a sword is more about not loosing your grip than propelling the sword, as once the weapon gets moving, it doesn't stop. My father is a member of the SCA, and he use to let me goof around with his weighted practice swords all the time. They were easy to swing, but the issue was often stopping them.

Also, the creature appears to be based on a star nose mole. Therefore she may have taken off a chunk of it's brain as well. Just speculation on that though.

all that just proves that it's a LONG STRETCH to explain something with a more obvious reasoning than actual physics and logistics.

still, tops cto you with all your sword experience. I'm more of a whip and katar guy myself. have 5 whips and a pair of katars respectively.Β

I believe she has the sword in reverse grip.

Should make it generally more comfortable and if one is flexible, which she obviously is, that angle should be possible.
