Sadly that's how a lot of people seem to think around here.
In 3 years I've been here until now, it happened I got notes from people asking me watches, favs, comments etc after they favved my whole gallery and commented my pics with "cute", Β "nice", "lol", "awesome", etc... the funny thing is that their galleries are often made of ONLY screenshots from games, some doodle made with paint and nothing more xD

but on your side { you are a dedicated artist who when you are not working on your art your thinking about your art - you also have 56,117 watchers and it is really hard to comment and fav ever thing you come across or even look and a third of it all ( even the bad stuff, what he is try to get noticed )
Yes it is crass and yes some times it hard to get noticed.
but trying to buy notice is just wrong.

Oi I hate people who do that. It's not just on DeviantArt Either. On IMVU someone came into the chat and asked people to write something nice about them on their home page, and one actually asked us to follow a link to a picture of them on facebook and like it. I was just sitting at the computer thinking "...Why?"

That is not a good way to get noticed, for sure. I would have reminded them that the favorite galleries are exactly that, the person's favorites, and that they need to make something I would want to add to it first. I would give them my suggestions and advice on what they had so far, then give them ideas on what I might be interested in seeing from them. This community is about artists helping others and showing their appreciation, not bartering for unearned recognition. :\
