Description

I broke my "don't buy a game for more than £20" rule to play Scorn, but it was worth it! Last game I saw that was this visually impressive was Red Dead 2. I can't call it "beautiful" because it's a relentless horror show, but it didn't matter which way you turned, you were looking at a work of art. Everything, from the bleak vistas to unimportant corners of the biomechanical constructs that rise up from them, looks unique.

Giger is obviously the one being credited as the source of inspiration for the style, but I see as much Zdzisław Beksiński in there. It's a gloriously nasty mash-up.

Something that I noticed, which they probably didn't intend, is how much this feels like an early CD Rom game. In a good way! With its bleak setting, zero voice acting and otherworldly feel; I had a strange wave of nostalgia while playing it. It made me think of "Creature Shock".

The main criticism the game seems to be getting is its length (I clocked it in 6 hours) but that's probably from the same people who used the fast-travel function in Red Dead 2; they're missing the point of the experience.

MY criticism is that they spent all this time and effort on clever, visual storytelling and then thought it needed combat. It would have been better as a pure puzzle game.
