Description Two girls in Wisconsin have been arrested for stabbing a classmate, apparently with the intention of becoming minions of the Slenderman. They were caught walking near a local highway, en route to Wisconsin’s Nicolet National Forest, where they believe the fictitious character lives.

The victim, who was stabbed 19 times, is making a recovery.

All the girls involved are around 12 years old.

That’s all terrible, but what actually irks me more is that a spokesman for the Slenderman creator, and administrator for the website where most fiction revolving around the character is posted, has said "We are not teaching children to believe in a fictional monster, nor are we teaching them to be violent."

I think it’s pretty bad that a person who comes up with a concept has to be afraid of the reaction to how other people use it. Especially children. They’re random, dangerous little buggers.
Think back to your own childhood. What was the stupidest thing you did, and why?
Me? At the age of about 8 or 9, I loved the The Goonies. Nothing wrong with that, you might think….except it’s a film about deadly traps, which I found fascinating and tried to emulate. I remember one occasion where I tried to put a very heavy rock in a tree, with the intention of having a tripwire set off its fall. Thankfully, I never managed it. If I had, I could have killed someone!
The 80s were a slightly more logical period in time, though. If I had crushed someone’s skull, I don’t think Steven Spielberg would have felt the need to cover his arse with a statement, nor do I think the media would have blamed him, unlike today, when everything is the fault of Grand Theft Auto.

Kids are sponges. You’ve no idea what information they’re going to absorb or how they’ll react to it when they do. This is why they’re more dangerous in the digital age than ever before; there is so much information available. The only way they survive to puberty unscathed is through the strange and archaic practice known as “parenting” – that being where the parents monitor stimuli upon their offspring, as opposed to just sitting them in front of a media portal and letting them soak up whatever content they stumble across.
The TV is not a good babysitter and the internet is an open sewer. You don’t want your kids being messed up? Don’t give them unrestricted access to either. Caught them accessing content they’re too young to handle? Sorry, you’re gonna have to do damage control, which involves talking to them (the horror) and explaining why something is wrong/bad/unhealthy/dangerous.
It obviously doesn’t guarantee that a child won’t do something stupid, inspiration can come from anywhere, but engaging with them does lessen the likelihood of them, y’know, trying to kill someone.

I know this is old now but i just have to say this and i know i wont be able t stop myself DX

The creepypasta website almost every tine ive gone on it recently has asked me to verify if I am 18 or older (which im not but i can still get in), also the wbsite admin and slendermans creator did NOT intend for children to be on their site and reading those storys, if anything their ponit is valid as they were not encouraging the two girls to read creepypasta, most of it would have been fan fics anyway because the girls mentipned something about a forest mansion which is normaly found in fan made storys. I totaly agree with you, but the creators are not to blame, the fact that the girls internet usauge wasnt being closely monitored is.

im typing off my phone, thats why I made so many mistakes XD

Apparently another girl in Wisconsin tried to kill her mother, dressed up something like Masky, with the same reason. These girls give creepypasta a bad name. I have loved creepypasta since I was 9 and you don't see me killing my family or my step brothers.

Psycho children will always do psycho things. That's why they're crazy. All the Slenderman thing did was expose them as crazy and alert people of the need to lock them up. If not Slenderman, something else would have made them do it.

Banding things such as the slenderman or any other mythology will not work. Because guess what? If we're going to do that, we might as well separate ALL kids so they wont be tempted to hurt one another.
Actually this is a lesson here- you should always be aware of the danger around you. Used to be only full gron men were dangerous, now look; children under the age of 15 are commiting murders for the most outwordly reason you thought possible.
As a author myself who has been writing for some years; i know my books are scary/violent and what not. But its just for the entertainment. Its not the ideas' fault, or the creator's. No it is (gonna sound harsh) the kids/parents fault for not being able to tell reality from non-reality.

People need to understand how to handle somethibg that is not real. That's the REAL problem.

Well, if you haven't heard of the newest story...a girl attacked her mother because 'Slenderman' said so.
The girl also made a Minecraft word for him too...I wonder whats next.

Not much more to say that hasn't been said already.

I mean, what next? Are we going to ban any mention of the boogey man?
What about mermaids? They drowned sailors.
And dear God, dragons eat people. Better ban them too.

I heard the stabbers are being tried in adult court. Which I think is necessary. THOSE GIRLS PLANNED TO STAB HER FOR MONTHS. THEY HAD IT ALL PLANNED OUT. They didn't just stab her once and say: "oh shit, what did we just do...?" Nope... they planned it all the way to that moment.

How that girl survived is completely beyond me... I wish her luck in her recovery

From what the news reported, one of the knife wounds was 1 mm away from severing a major artery. That's how close she was to bleeding to death.

Some people just don't know when to stop. Others don't know when to not do something. I don't blame media for the rise in killers/ attempted murders; I blame society for that one.

This is why I don't like the fandom in general a bunch of little people that are completely delusional and think they can kill people because they read a series of horror writing.

it isn't necessarily the media's fault, i mean could a kid read a folklore book and want to become the boogeyman's proxy? sure. what i'm trying to say is that it's pretty much impossible to shield your kid from reading creepy stuff.

I agree,but even so,creepypasta isn't just a website,it's a genre of writing.Isn't it kinda hard to blame a stabbing on a genre of writing.

It's not good to be 'insane' , nor is it funny. Quit acting like insanity is a joke, it's not and people really do suffer from it. You're just making yourself look silly by calling yourself insane.
