This one? or the Black & white version? [link]5 shots blended in Photomatix, on the 5th exposure the tide came right up to me hence the smoky effect.

Yep, 5 exposures blended. On the 5th one, which was 4-5 seconds?, can't remember, the tide came right up to my feet and back out again.
your D40x has bracketing? Set it to 3, 5, or 7 and blend 'em in Photomatix. It's all software, not me
