Inspiration
Earlier that evening, I looked at the sky and thought, "That's probably not going to be that great of a sunset." The clouds were pretty heavy, there wasn't any wind, and I wondered if the sun would show at all. Eventually, my family and I decided we should go watch the sun go down, and I took my camera, just in case.

If there's one thing I've learned through my years (I can actually say that now) of landscape photography, it's not to underestimate the horizon. This sunset was glorious.

And I've started to really value the trips that my family and I take together. The memories are more tangible than you'd think.

Technique
I spent a while standing on the beach, taking pictures. I crouched behind my siblings and took pictures of them as silhouettes. You know, regular photography, so to speak.
Gradually, I realized that every time a wave splashed, it was lit up by the sunset. The problem was, you had to get really low to get the shot.

Any guesses as to what I did?
I lay down in the wet pebbles as close to the water as possible. It was uncomfortable, and once or twice I covered my camera lens for fear of getting water droplets on it. Just imagine me lying on a wet beach taking pictures like a maniac.
I'm awesome like that.

I had some problems with shutter speed, but I did my best.
