Description Kay falls victim to the shards of the evil troll mirror, which bring out all the most horrid in a person's reflection for them to see. One in his eye made everything he saw seem wrong and terrible and dark, and one in his heart made him joyless. He had once been one of the kindest people, easily the kindest in his town, warm and always wanting to help others. But soon, he became so cold that the Snow Queen whisked him away to her palace to be hers forever. Everyone in the town believes he drowned in the river. It was his companion and love Gerda who journeyed to the Snow Queen's palace, weeping on him, her tears melting him and loosing the shard in his heart, his own tears loosing the shard in his eye.

In the fairy tale they go back and live happily.

But I don't think that, as good a person as Kay was, he would have been able to forgive himself for all the horrible things he did. That knowledge would forever bring darkness to his heart whether the shard was there or not.

This is not Kay, this is a female, but I'm fine. Thank you Gerda, he knows who he is. Between him and creating this piece, I can't explain how much better I feel.

Sidenote: I actually almost asphyxiated on chalk dust making this piece. And then it was snowing so I could only go right out the door to spray it, and I didn't have any fixative or hairspray so I ended up using a Rustoleum clear protective gloss coat. And I couldn't stay out there because it was getting everything wet so I brought it inside. So during the process of this piece I learned nearly from experience that I do not in fact want to die any time soon. XD

This is really nice and expressive. Also, I used to read that story as a kid. I had it in a book with beautiful illustrations and I loved it. I'm glad you reminded me of it

Thank you :3 You can find the full text online in a few places, and ~reidavidson did a wonderful adaptation for her nano, which might be why the comparison came up.

T'isn't a dragon, but s'ose it's cool that you saw it. It's a person. Suffering from the ugliness in their eye and the black hole in their heart that can't ever be fully fixed.
