Well, you may not like my version.
She doesn't blow up in the way as described in the book: she winds up growing a blueberry patch under her skin that oozes out and causes the purple color and her hair turns into a blueberry bush/blueberry patch, with little blueberries sprouting from her head. So basically, she winds up looking like a big, bulbous wart that's leaking blue juice everywhere and is wearing a fruiting plant on her head.
