Update 3: Progress is slow and I'm not getting as much time and calm to draw as I would like. So for now only some more of the sword and some more leather added.__________________
Update 2: Some more progress on the clothes, sword and background. Not sure the fabric is "fabric-y" enough yet. And the background could do with... something. I'm not too fond of the horizontal line where the background goes darker, but I have no idea what to do about it yet.

Update I: I actually made some more progress. I'm quite liking how the arm and sword hilt turned out, which motivates me to keep working on it. So I've decided to turn this into a "stages of my drawing process" type thing that I'll keep on updating as I work on it. If you have suggestions for me as I'm updating, please share them. It's the perfect point in time for helpful feedback.

*Sigh* This has been a work in progress for almost two months now. I'd love to get it finished, but it's taking sooo long and I had extremely little time during the last weeks. I feel like it's worth finishing, so I'm posting it as a WIP in the hopes that it helps me commit to finishing it. Would you like to see it finished?

Looking fantastic so far! The glove is probably my favorite section so far. Blurring the background while making it look like it's real and actually there, is something I feel I struggle with; you're doing a great job here though, especially with the trees.

Wow -- I didn't realize this would be a half-body shot -- I thought the original cropping was all there was to it.
As far as the background goes, is it too late to add in some shrubs to sort of break up the differentiation? Just one or two in the distance to bridge the light and dark portions might ease the transition for you.

Yes, it's a half body drawing, A3, which is part of why I was so reluctant to continue after I'd made hardly any progress for weeks. A3 takes a long time even under the best circumstances. But now that I'm slowly getting there, I'm glad I didn't discard it.
With the background, yes, some shrubbery, something to break up that line. Ideally, I'll find some random reference photo with a blurry nature-y background to get it to look right.
