Hey everyone. So recently they announced the cast for the upcoming Mario movie and honestly I'm not really the biggest fan of it (outside of Jack Black as Bowser). To be honest I never really had high hopes for the Mario movie mainly due to it being made by Illumination Studios (a studio I am not a fan of at all). While I'm aware of it's reputation I actually really like the original live action Mario movie from the 90s. Sure it took a lot of liberties from the games I still found it to be an interesting reinterpretation of the Mario universe nad the news regarding the Mario Movie next to my drawing of the Sonic Satam cast meeting the SMB Movie cast getting into a Super Mario Bros Movie group got me in the mood for drawing some SMB Movie fan art.

One of the reasons I was able to get into the Mario movie is because it's pointed out to me how the Mario movie is basically the Mario equivilent to Sonic Satam (my favorite Sonic cartoon), which warmed me up to it a bit more. But it also got me wondering, what if the Mario movie had been a cartoon or the basis of a long running comic series similar to Sonic Satam? So I decided to draw my own take the Mario Bros if I were in charge of a cartoon or comic inspired by the movie's universe. This concept isn't really finalized or anything, like I'm not sure if I'd stick to the movie personalities or alter them to be more like their traditional game counterparts. But for this piece I decided to stick with the movie personalities.

In my hypothetical idea for a Mario Movie inspired cartoon/comic, I figured that Mario and Luigi would utilize a large assortment of different gadgets based on various items and enemies from the games and plumbing tools. So I gave Mario a sort of battle wrench and Luigi a high tech look plunger (if I ever do more art for this take on the Mario Bros I'd probably want to refine the design of their plumbing tools more). Also while many would consider the flame throwers the movie's versions of the Fire Flower I had a more interesting idea. I figured it'd be neat if Mario had a special high tech glove fueled by Fire Flowers that allowed him to throw fire balls, and since this idea remineded me of the Fire Brand ability from the game 'Mario & Luigi Super Star Saga', so I decided to give Luigi a glove with lightning powers in reference to the Thunderhand from the same game, I also figured it'd be good to give each brother their own unique abilities. Also my designs for the Firebrand and Thunderhand were both influenced by of all things Dr. Starline's special gloves from the IDW Sonic comics. Also their belt logos were inspired by the 80s Ninja Turtles, the logos on their boots were inspired by this video I saw where some guy made 3D models of the game version of Mario and Luigi wearing their movie outfits and he also put logos on their boots.

Speaking of which I'm honestly kind of proud of how I drew the Thwomp Stompers in this drawing. I've always thought that the Thwomp Stompers were some of the coolest looking things from the movie if I'm to be honest, but also really complicated to draw.

Anyways hoped you all liked this drawing, if you want me to do more art of my own personal take on the Mario movie universe let me know I do have some ideas for Koopa and Toad. I even have a few name ideas for this hypothetical series, either: "Super Mario Bros: The Lost World" or "Mario Bros Evolution".
