Hello again! My name is Luiz Alberto and I’m the brazilian writer of the upcoming book “The Last Days of Aluben”, which is being written in Portuguese (hope to get a good translator someday!) I would like to tell you guys a little bit more about Elisa, one of my favorite characters from the book and the ideas behind the picture. I will talk mostly about the character, since a little bit of the world’s background can be read on Nicole’s picture, also painted by Jorsch.
Elisa was born in Bucharest, Romania and, once she died, she woke up in Aluben. Unlike most people that arrive in this mysterious world, she was not converted in energy, but got to keep her physical form and thoughts. Elisa is a powerful character in Aluben and it doesn’t take long for her to meet a friend: Ellayne. Ellayne is a small 30cm or so fairy that is now all alone and was looking for Elisa since the young romanian appeared in her world. In the past, fairies used to be created by angels and sent to help humans all over Aluben. With the energy depleted and angels becoming mad, the celestial beings started hunting their own fairies and just slaughtered them to get more power. Fortunately, Ellayne is still alive and she decides to help Elisa in a very special way: she will act as a link between Elisa and other forces that start to fill her body.
Elisa receives the help of not only Ellayne, but four angels that were dead in Aluben. In the book, there is a very special plot point where these four angels come back to life by using Elisa’s body as some kind of “home”. All four start “living” inside her and each one grant her one special power: fire, ice, lightning and earth. All four can’t be active at the same time, or they would risk killing Elisa’s body since they are so powerful, so they take turns on which one is active at a given time. When the fire angel, Lilliane, is active, Elisa’s hair color turns red and she can cast fireballs and jets of flame. When the lightning angel is active, her hair is blonde. Ice is silver and earth is black.
In the picture, we can see her with silver/white hair, which means the ice angel is active. This picture is actually just a little bit after the transformation. Her hair is still a little bit wet and even shows one or two hair strings that look like icy stalactites. Her feet are surrounded by a chilly effect and even the floor and nearby tree can feel her power, becoming a little bit frozen. The same can be said about the river to her left. Even Ellayne changes a little bit and her wings now have the chilly effect and look like they are made of pure ice.
Elisa is also a skilled gunslinger. There is a rule in Aluben that, when you kill someone, you get some of his powers and Elisa killed a very important hunter, getting his skill with guns. Elisa usually doesn’t like to fire her guns (when you can throw fireballs or freeze people you don’t need bullets) but it’s always good to carry weapons to intimidate or if she becomes too tired after using a lot of magic.
On the personality side, Elisa is usually cheerful and very ironic. She’s not a violent person, but if there’s an enemy ahead or someone really pisses her off she will use all her powers to just destroy her opponent. She can be funny and tease people around her while thinking of ways to get out a dangerous situation.
Elisa’s costume is actually quite simple. She usually uses long brown pants, a pair of boots, a white shirt with buttons and a dark coat over everything. I like to think of her like an old west gunslinger in a post-apocalyptic world. In the picture, I like to show a little bit of how Aluben can be harsh and a destructive place, but also show some beautiful sights, like the forest to her left. Elisa doesn’t look too good here, maybe she just got out a fight inside the temple? I like the details on her shirt showing some cuts and also de blood. The dirty on her skin probably came from the smoke and debris inside the temple.

This sounds like a book I'd like to read! The illustration is beautiful- definitely caught my attention to want to learn more about the character.

Thanks! I hope to translate it to english someday. It's just so hard to find someone that dominates both english and portuguese, and needs to be someone that also understands fantasy settings. Will probably be very expensive, but I hope I get it on english someday.

A very interesting and beautiful character and scene. The Mayan-like pyramid looks intriguing, and the sky rather ominous. The fairy in Elisa's hand is also a fascinating touch.
