Description A huge green field in Tonina, a mayan archaeological site in Chiapas, Mexico.

Tonina means palace or house of stone because the main buildings were literally embedded in the mountain. This is my preferred mayan site.

The military was very relevant in the the mayan culture and the Tonina people chose this site as an advantageous geographical position versus their enemies, you can see many miles around you.

I did some contrast and tint enhancements.

Thanks! I'm glad you've noticed the building! that green and the history of the building is hypnotizing.

If you can notice, the building has seven terraces or levels that simulate the seven heavens or seven skies that correspond to the upperworld in the mayan religious view. There are other "infraworld" levels that the mayan culture depict with demons and other scary stuff... funnily there are ancient books that tell epic stories about these worlds called "Chilam Balam" books [link]

Thanks again.
