He was a hero of Scotland in the same way Joan of Arc was a hero of France. The first time I saw the death of William Wallace in Braveheart, I cried.

I finally saw this movie last November because of my own Scottish ancestry...and because nothing says, "FREEDOM!" like an anti-Semitic Australian with breathtaking anger management issues.
