It was a stroke of luck. The biggest moon in years, and the very moment I pointed the camera to the moon, there it was the plane. Just one second lather and I'd have missed the shot.

ansolutely not. I only cropped and "touched" levels in Photoshop. The photo is a real snapshot.
Now that you mention it, the afterburner seems to come from the tail not from the jets in the wings. I don't know if this is normal or is some kind of visual effect.
