Day 5 of Sanctuary January
Whooping cranes are the tallest bird in North America. They are endangered mainly because of habitat loss and illegal shot.
In 1941, there were only 21 wild whooping cranes remains plus two captive birds. Conservation efforts have led to a population increase and now their numbers has reach an estimated 800 birds (wild & captivity).
