Based on a real engine, Union Pacific Challenger No. 3985, currently the largest operating steam locomotive in the world

A 2-6-4?! Never saw one like that. Nice, but I think the cow cacher, the part on the front, is a little low.

A few questions arised in my mind...
do you need a Graphics card to create renders like this ?
how much time did you take to render this ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

joshcxa In reply to theonlyremedy [2007-01-16 09:13:55 +0000 UTC]

a graphics card certainly helps to create your models.

I cant remember how long it took to render because it was so long ago

Railwolf [2006-10-15 01:23:24 +0000 UTC]

oh wait...it is articulated....didn't see the secund set of drivers. Ok, well done on that!

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Railwolf [2006-10-15 01:22:24 +0000 UTC]

were to start....
not bad.
in fact i love the boiler,
but you have alot of stuff that I have never seen on a locomotive. and 3985 is the challenger class steam locomotive owned by UP...not what you have here, this thing isn't even articulated. no were close to a chalenger, much less a big boy.

But you got the valve gear close on the drive wheels. and the boler head looks cool.

I would also give her a tender. most steam locomotives had them
good job.

nicely done! though the main drive wheels look abit small.

humillimus [2006-04-28 18:03:44 +0000 UTC]

Beautiful rendering and nicely done!

One thing strikes me: I notice that the rear set of drivers is directly under the cab... I'd expect this engine to be longer, with a trailing truck behind the rear drivers (and under the cab).

i can only hope when i make my model of rx7's n other cars (maybe people too) for my Year12 Art Major, i can do just as good with detail as you have done with this render

you wouldnt happen to know a good animation site though?
i was thinkin about animating these 3 cars drifting down a road if i had the time _b

You know, you said you decided to do this one because you wanted to do something different from your abstract work. However, by virtue of the train sitting alone in the desert, with no tracks for it to have arrived on, you have essentially created a surreal image! BTW, beautifully done.
