Description The 3751 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1927 for the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway.
It was one of (65) 4-8-4 'Northern's manufactured from 1927 to 1944, assigned for mainline passenger service.
Originally built as coal-burners, the 4-8-4's were later converted into burning gallons of oil.
While on the high iron, the 3751 along with its sister locomotives hauled many known passenger trains such as "The Scout" and the "Super Chief" for examples.
During this process, these engines undergo through a series of upgrades including their driving wheels, new frames, roller bearings and much more.
Retired in 1953, the 3751 hauled the final steam-powered passenger train on the Santa Fe between Los Angeles and San Diego on August 25th, before putting out of service.
Afterwards, the locomotive was donated to the San Bernardino park for display five years later.
After 28 years exposed to the elements and aging equipment, the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society was formed with a purpose of restoring and operating the 3751 for excursion service.
Moved from the park to the California Steel Industries in 1986, the restoration project lasted for five years until August 1991, the locomotive was back under steam once again after (38) years of silence.
Since the test run from Los Angeles to Bakersfield, the trial was a success for the 3751's new career hauling excursions and special trips at many events.
