Description Before the second former Canadian Pacific (CP) 4-6-2 steam engine from Traintown came to Shining Time in 2012, the first former CP locomotive brought into the United States to the
Indian Valley Railroad in donation was 'G3' class 'Pacific' number 2314.
Built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in 1923, the engine was once used in fast passenger service on the CP mainline until her duties were taken over by diesel locomotives in 1959.
Retired since that year, the 2314 was slated for scrapping until a small group of concerned Canadian residents saved the locomotive successfully, though they had no other place to run it.
Having been donated to the IVRR in Pennsylvania the following year, she underwent some overhauls before assigning to mainline passengers in November.
At that time, the locomotive was given a name to commemorate the holiday Thanksgiving as "Squanto".
Compared to other locomotives on the IVRR fleet and system, Squanto is primarily and frequently the norm of mainline steam.
