I think this has taken a very powerful and realistic spin to Mewtwo. In a world where Pokemon truly existed, the Pocket Monsters would take a far more animalistic form than shown in any Pokemon game or movie. The Pokemon are animals in this world after all, natives brought about by hundreds of thousands of years of evolution, as opposed to the animated monsters that seem to appear in cannon.
Mew, earning it's name for what can only be assumed to be a cat-like appearance in a world where Pokemon are more realistic and adapted, it makes sense that Mewtwo, derived from Mews own DNA and grafted with that of a human, takes such a damnable form, a terrible mix of whatever feline-resembling form mew once took, and the visage of only the best human specimen.
Thank you for what I can only describe as the utmost realism in a Pokemon artwork.

βMewβ ? While the original cartoony style is notoriously vague on this question in a strictly visual sense, THAT name should make it obvious that the beast is loosely based on a hairless Sphinx, as well as some reptilian traits.
