Description WHAT INSPIRED ME
-----------------------------

This time I will not elaborate. But it does have a meaning, it always has a meaning. Thank you so much for all the support you give me.

From members:
I was so proud of myself when I finish this work. It is my personal favorite no doubt. But if I consider the number of , people don’t seems to agree with me. So, my question for you is: what’s wrong with this piece of art?
the heavily texturized background
the colors (blue and green together)
the cliché concept (black haired White dressed lady in a Forest)
so many painted details
others (please tell me)
Don’t misunderstand me, I still like this work. I just was wondering people are seeing something wrong that I can’t see myself and I’d love to know what is it so I can fix it. Thank you.

SPECIAL DEDICATION:
-----------------------------

Van, dedico esse trabalho à você por vários motivos: pelo nosso reencontro, pela nossa cumplicidade, por adorar você, por acreditar em nossa amizade e porque você é uma das únicas pessoas que entenderá o significado desse trabalho. Te adoro.

I love critiquing Photomanipulation, so I was really excited to see this piece in Gimme Feedback. I'd say that the strongest component of this manip is definitely the woman. The hair and skin look fantastic and I love the soft touch you added to them. The dress has such beautiful, dreamy colours that really set the scene.

The biggest problem I see with this piece is the background. The trouble mainly lies in the fact that I think it's too flat. I know you were trying to get a sort of foggy look to it, but I would've done that instead by using fog brushes at varying opacities. I think that you can really strengthen the scene by adding shadows and highlights so that the background pops more. Someone mentioned the trees and I agree that they look artificial. It's hard using 3D stock because a lot of manips require that you put a lot of time into painting details into 3D renders to make them integrate into your art more easily.

Either way, I think you did a great job and can't wait to look at your gallery.

Oh yeah, when I first joined this group there was almost none photomanipulation and I had a hard time giving feedback here. Fortunately it is changing now

Usually I don’t change a work after I have submitted it to my gallery (I like seeing how my works is evolving or not ) but I am opening an exception on this one, because all the wonderful suggestions I received. The fog is one point that I’ll be changing.

The tree is not a 3D stock. It’s painted. Maybe I should add more highlights into it.

Thank you so much for the feedback. It is really appreciated

Ah! I didn't know it wasn't 3D stock. I'm totally with you when it comes to usually not taking my photomanips back to the drawing board. Though, my excuse is usually that I don't always want to spend more time on a piece of art that I've already spent hours on. XD Aka laziness. I'm glad I could give you a little bit of feedback on your art. It looks really promising.

First of all, thank you so much for taking your time and give me feedback. It’s very appreciated

Well, the trees (like many other details in this work) are painted, so I don’t think there is a way to make them look real. Maybe that’s the problem, this artwork should be more real-like.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

geralin In reply to Josiane-Rey [2009-10-29 20:36:24 +0000 UTC]

You are welcome.

Well, I don't think it should be more real-like... I kinda like it, it give it all a dream-like touch.
It could be that some continuity is missing. I mean that the different elements (both painted and real) should be more alike in style. But I guess it's very, very hard to do so. Furthermore, you already made the styles very similar.
Maybe what I'm suggesting isn't even possible XD

I absolutley adore this! It's beautifully done. I really like how the back of the dress looks like wings (I don't if that was intentional). The one detail that I couldn't quite make out was the object by her hand. Is she holding it? Is it dangling? What is it?
That's the only problem I saw. Great job!

First of all, thank you so much for taking your time and give me feedback. It’s very appreciated

After the wonderful feedback I got from you guys from #GimmeFeedback I’ll be changing some parts of this work (the object on her hand – that’s a elven lamp – is one thing I will definitely be changing). I do not usually change an art after I submit it, but I am making an exception on this one

I am so happy with your feedback in particular, because you saw some details that nobody have saw – or mentioned – before. Yes, it was my intention to make her dress look like former wings, like if these lady used to be a fairy but now she isn’t anymore. Also, I put the castle in front of a very big and bright moon to give it an unreachable air. I am so, so, so happy that you noted it and like it

I also forgot to mention that I especially like how the castle looks like it's in a globe, this makes it seem unreachable and the lady is sad about this. It really adds to the story.

63 faves sounds pretty good to me. I noticed her sleeve is very far down, and it distracts from the composition somewhat. It's a visually pleasing picture, but maybe not quite up everyone's alley.

jonathoncomfortreed [2009-10-27 17:50:31 +0000 UTC]

I think the problem is how perfect it is. I mean, everything is so symmetrical and evenly spaced. Cliche is close, but I think you've worked too hard to make this so fantastical.

Does that make sense? Do I need to explain more?

I actually really like it but I feel that the girl looks a little weird. I'm not sure why but she looks disproportional or something. Especially her hand.

Maybe a different girl or position or something.

It's nice though ^^ good job~

First of all, thank you so much for taking your time and give me feedback. It’s very appreciated

I think you are right, there is something wrong with the pose. If you see the original stock, the lady is on the water so her feet is covered by water. In my work I tried to cover her feet with grass, but it seems the effect was not the same. She really looks short. And the hair is also strange. As I have painted a new “sleeve” for her dress, her hand is also weird. I’ll try to fix all these points
